The truth is though that MbS killed someone well connected to Washington elite circles and all the lobbying and gussying up that the Saudis had been doing for decades was ruined (don't forget that the Washington Post was writing love letters about MbS only a few months ago for his paltry reforms despite still murdering dozens of other royals and female activists).
Then of course there is the Saudi spat with Qatar, which has also spent a considerable amount of money lobbying Washington, and of course they are smarter than MbS and have used this opportunity to turn the US elite even more against KSA.
