at least it looks nice and orderly

why is soviet urban planning so visually pleasing?

tavarishes, why have you turned your backs on the proletarian revoltution? You should be surpassing work quotas, not whining like decadent capitalists!

only from high above

from the street it usually looks meh

Visually pleasing - maybe
Useful - NO.

>i live
please make it stop

If they weren't useful, people wouldn't live in them.

It makes me think what's the point of building huge blocks and leaving so much empty space around no one really uses instead of building semi-detached houses all over the area that would take up the same amount of space but provide better living standards to the dwellers

I don't understand why commies didn't take the example from the Netherlands for instance, it would be easily explainable by commie ideology and people would genuinely love communism if they had such houses.

>there is choice

it all depends on communities, soviet model uses saved space from verticalisation for building common areas like parks and it's more public transport oriented, high car usage in with such planning will inevitably result in huge traffic.
Single houses are the exact opposite and it's more car oriented

imagine having the worst of both worlds ;)

have you ever heard of huge traffic and congested roads in the Netherlands? they have one of the best public transport systems in the world

semi-detached houses work well with public transport

at least they have nice cladding

but modern blocks here look the same

Exactly, single houses have lower density therefore car usage don't really affect residential areas, try to force everybody to use cars in a super dense area the result will be traffic
>semi-detached houses work well with public transport
and Russia can be even better than the Netherlands, big pop crammed in small area is efficency for public transport, if only Russians could get their shit together

why do you build blocks? You have a shit ton of space to build big houses!

real estate developers are greedy

It could be worse. You could have soul destroying architecture and enormous social problems
