During the Conservative Party leadership election campaign last year the media constantly called candidate Kevin O'Leary the Canadian Trump. Like Trump he is a very rich man and former reality TV host and he can be brash and narcissistic. Also like Trump he supports an increased military budget, lower taxes, and wants all senators to be rich, and for increased campaign contributions/ anonymous contributions. He has said he loves Trump and considers him very intelligent.
That said, he supports complete free-trade, transgender rights, marijuana legalisation, no border walls (he's the son of Lebanese and Irish immigrants) with fast-track immigration and family immigration, pro-gay marriage, pro-abortion, and supports NATO. Unlike Trump he has been married to the same woman for 30 years and where Trump is a teetotaler, O'Leary is a wine connoisseur and belongs to a prestigious Burgundy wine club.
He was leading in many polls throughout the election campaign but dropped out citing lack of support in Québec (he doesn't speak any French at all and didn't bother learning any in time for debates).
