I give it 30-40 years or less until that is possible

You became the person you are because your environment shaped you....parents, teachers, interactions with others and the environment. Once a robot can do the same stuff, it is nearly a human. Also there are currently robots that can perceive taste. The perception of pain is not that far down the line either. Once at that stage, a robot can learn and become whatever, even learn to build other robots itself.
