Ukrainian national identity formed only in the mid 19th century and wash pushed by the Austrian authorities to divide the partitioned and occupied territories of the former Crown of the Kingdom of Poland - divide and conquer.

Yes, the geographical Ukraine was supposed to be come the Grand Duchy of Ruthenia after the 1658 Treaty of Hadiach but it didn't happen.
Zaporozhia was just a part of Ukraine and didn't encompass Kiev, and Kiev was part of the geographical Ukraine.
