I learned it in high school in the 90's. I've forgotten a ton of it but I've recently been pleasantly surprised by how quickly it comes back to me on Duolingo.

MSA is based off of the Quran, but except in academia and official things it isn't used because of its extreme formality and lack of updated terms. Countries usually use their own regional dielects.

And when talking abot Chinese, most people think of Mandarin. But that's like saying Italian is the true Latin language, and the others are bastardized, but clearly they are all their own variants. Except Chinese languages are much much more seperate. Cantonese speakers can't understand Mandarin.

Any modern culture, news/music/games, etc. Even though it's all shit, we do have an enormous impact on the world. 99% of people wouldn't care to read, listen to music, play games, watch movies of other cultures.
