What happened to them? Why aren't they among the greats anymore?

Roma was built by Nordics, not terroni ok?
Best Italy was Italy of the Comunes
No good colonies.
>being this retarded
bump
Italians are incapable of having a functional state
and that's a good thing
I am sure some brainlet will jump into the threads and claim that its because modern italians =/= romans and or renaissance italians, but thats just wrong.
The reasons for rise and decline of civilization are extremely complex, and anyone who points out a single factor is either a brainlet or simply dishonest.
Maybe its the decline of Mediterranean trade, or at least the Italian role in it (keep in mind that Venice went as far as causing crusaders to attack another christian nation due to it)
maybe its because italian lack of unity, while being a good thing back during the time even a single city state could be competitive is a bad thing now, as smaller, less unified nations are inevitably dragging behind
maybe its some other factor
who knows really, social sciences are extremely lacking in substance when it comes to a question of rise and decline
>Japanese education
banzai
What about Christianity?
Right here, empires develop in power vacuums, and usually rise when two other nearby power bleed themselves dry to the point of exhaustion.
what's the problem with modern italy ? it's a good country to live in, first world, rich, 3rd biggest eu economy, they have salvini
renaissance Italy was christian and still hugely influential in terms of sciences and art, hell despite their lack of unity even politically they were a major force (not quite France or >H>R>E) but still.
However if you are talking about the collapse of the WRE, then blaming christianity is a bit silly too, ERE was far more devout christian, yet it survived for another 1000 years.
This christianity killed Rome meme is largely based on a work of a single euro historian (cant remember his name at the moment desu) who lived right at the time of massive religious warfare and devastation and as a result held rather strong anti-christian feelings. Still his works shouldn't completely be dismissed as biased, but any claims that christianity is a sole or, even simply, significant factor in roman collapse are dubious at best
>has rubbish piling up in your capital city streets which only gets cleared by it getting carried away by floodwater
>is run by the mafia
>pays high taxes for no gain
Yep
Less people relatively compared to the global population. Less weight in the world.
No, it's very simple. Hitler's idea of different human breeds (builder, maintainer, animals and parasites) + population number. It's really that simple.
terroni
ran out of arab pussy
we had been the seventh world economy for quite a lot of time, we still are in the top 10, i don't get your point
sea trading not so relevant anymore
no natural resources to fuel industrialization when it was the time
surely more reasons
we arent that bad anyway
ah yes im sure hitler's ideas are worth loads
We got raped by the moors
They have great classical music.
They are among contributors in the EU. Their food is great.
t. bogdan ciacesco, local romanian gypsy
Being in the center of the Mediterranean just isn't as important as it used to be with the rise of others countries outside of Europe and North Africa like the USA and China.
That's just another oversimplification
This. Socieities are very complex and recursive systems. Boiling something down to a single variable is generally impossible, one either has to look deeply into a specific case or settle for loose correlations.
Social sciences are set up ass backwards. They try to brute force shit through statistical studies or alternatively invent fanciful narratives. Nobody seems to have done much rigorous work on developing ways to abstract the complexity of society into constructs useful for making predictions. Cybernetics initially set out to do this among other things, but I don't think many social scientists know anything about that field.
What do you mean "what happened"? You stopped us.
They dont have the timber and coal like Britain and Germany so they couldnt not really industrialize as easily
t. Le original 56% face
hold on, Italy. I thought you had a revolution and it was only evil Mussolini who pushed you to join the bad guys.
Didn't kill or conquer any more than ancient rome did
The Jews.
Italy is one of the best countries in the world. #1 in world heritage sites. Amazing food. Welcoming people. Safer than 95% of the world. Beautiful scenery, good beaches, inspiring architecture.
OP is probably a guido from New Jersey who believes he's as Italian as a baker from Mantua.
They mass immigrated to (((the new world))) after colombus discovered it giving amerika the (((greats))) honors.
Italy is SHIT
Italy was an industrial powerhouse until the 80s
Because all trade used to flow to Venice from the Silk road but then global empires like Great Britain, Portugal, Spain, and France found another route around Africa that destroyed the silk road.
Haha, that wouldnt happen aything to do with joining the (((EU))) would it? Beehhh of course not!
Yes, an industrial powerhouse of military failures, lmao
Italy was one of the founding countries of the EU you shtiskin
Thats mr yellow skin to you, olive toned tyrone
You literally had a bigger economy than france and the uk until relatively recently
Either that or china killed their industry
Italy is the second industrial power in Europe.
Still more relevant than us
Nah both France and the UK have you beaten.
>Nothing state
How? The big 5 in Europe are UK, g*rmany, Italy, France and Spain
also checking
Actually just France now that I checked
brookings.edu
You climbed to number 3 recently.
paying taxes is for chumps
This attitude doesn't seem healthy (see Greece)
Name one country with higher GDP than Italy and lower population
Protip: you can't
california
>country
whatever, deal with it
States in America are basically like countries they're so different
shut the fuck up dude
But GDP of american states is influenced by being in the country, if California had never been annexed and remained a country apart from USA their GDP would be much lower
this is a cope, my friend
He's not wrong, laws are economy vary wildly
yeah yeah
>moorish caliphate
Based
Well what happened between ancient Rome and renaissance? Kek at some point there were vegetables markets inside the colosseum. Everyone has its up and downs. And Italy is still one of the best countries imo
It's the same with EU. If Germany wasn't part of the EU the manufacturing industries from other countries wouldn't have moved there and Italy would be in a better economic position like in the 80's. It's sad that greedy politicians and bureaucrats get to decide the future of our countries instead of the people.
Modern Italians have no racial similarity to ancient romans who were a basque-Celtic people.
Moden italians are all post roman african and asiatic migrants.
>West coast McMansions are like totally different from those on the East dude!
But the romans saw themselves as a slave caste.
Modern shittalians claiming to.be even.related to.ancient romans is like african.americans.claiminh to.be native americans
I think the historian you are looking for is Edward Gibbon, who wrote History of the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire.
He was very influential with the british. The book was a must read for any british upper-class that wanted to call himself an intellectual
I literally look like augustus (but cuter, twinkier body)
I wuz roman
lmao, every time when a thread goes about a country people from that country come and tell that it's a shithole
Quite the opposite, infact, Terroni are the true descendants of the Romans. Tuscans and Piedmontese are of Etruscan stock with Germanic and Celtic admixture.
terrone
kek, based
Lmao virgil was literally from Lombardy. Terroni are greekoid subhumans, impure "latins". North italians are way more roman (o.g. Roman, not when everyone even araps or northrons had citizienship) than any saracen rapebabby terrone subhuman will ever be.
But anyway the only true romans are probably some few people somewhere in central italy.
you forgot mussolini
Germoney wins again
Well, it's a long story....
>the UK almost as low as Spain
sad
>jesus
Lmao WE
original here :)
Gibbons. His work is considered extremely biased and outdated today
