It did. It was part of the battle of Menton, so not a battle in itself but 9 French soldiers did hold off 5000 Italian infantry for a while.

To be more precise is not totally fake, the 9 guys in the fort existed, but they didn't hold off the soldiers, italians simply ignored them and continued the advance because the fort was not in a key position to stop the troops
After ten days the armistice happened and they surrendered to the italian troops
