Violence is heavily censored in Japan. Most western games are censored (God of War, Killzone, Resistance, GTA, Dragon Age, Bulletstorm, etc) and japanese games too (Biohazard, Shadow of the Damned, The Evil Within, MGS, etc).
The censorship is not subtle at all: black screens, jav pixels, purple blood.

Hypocrisy? Double standards? Tsutaya can sell violent comics to kids, they are there, anyone can pick up one and buy it.
But stores are forbidden from selling CERO Z rated games to people without IDs. You have to prove that you aren't a minor, some retailers won't even sell those games and the ones that does, have them behind counters.
