Actually free speech does mean you can say literally whatever you want without criminal repercussions unless what you’re saying is a clear intention of physically harming someone. Inciting a false panic by yelling fire when there isn’t a fire can be easily shown as an attempt to cause physical harm as people regularly get trampled and injured in such situations and therefore it’s not protected by free speech.

hate speech has no such similar judicial basis. The only damage of calling someone a nigger is that somebody can say they “feel” hurt, but they can’t remotely prove that they were hurt nor can they prove that person intended to hurt them.
