It's crazy man.
It's balooning like mushrooms after the rain.
i wonder how much students owe as a whole and can we pay it off as a country somehow
because debt is fake and gay
read up on mmt you stupid
It's just numbers on a paper, brah
people are bad with money
1.65 Trillion Dollars at the moment.
collegedebt.com
Cause every big billion dollar company has like 1 or 2 people taking 99% of the money they make. You need an education to get a good wage but there just isnt enough good positions to make money for most people, and the people who could pay their workforce good just always keep all of it. I know far too many people who graduated and in huge debt, and there 10 of thise people for every available job. There are folk working in retail and restaurants who have good degrees, and they are waiting
its over a trillion dollaroos iirc
And money is bad with people.
Federal subsidized student loans awarded to basically anyone who asks for them allowed tuition to skyrocket. Also, declining standards at universities allowed many people to go to college who really had no business being there: many of these individuals drop out with considerable debt or can't get a job after graduation.
I like it
retarded american system is breaking, no one want to be a unskilled shite that will be on the lower end of the stick, almost certainly you'll need a degree to suceed in amerika.
the american dream is dead
kek
I've got tens of thousands of dollars in student debt. Planning to use income-based repayment plans to give back the bare minimum for as long as possible. Fuck American education: there's no reason dirt-poor countries like India can subsidize students' academics but the United States has tuition that goes nowhere but up.
I only owe $3900 these days
>tfw $48,000 in debt
>tfw student loan limit is $57,500 for undergrads
>tfw just going to borrow the rest before I graduate
>tfw income will be too low to even have to make payments
Thanks for the free money, Uncle Sam!
Ι need it.
Wait a minute why are they growing so fast? Its not like tuition is rising at the same rate. Is it because graduates have a lot of debt, no home and are being added as households?
>allowed tuitions to skyrocket
>not having government mandated tuition prices
You know that it doesn't work that way, right?
here are some answers, many people take out shit loads with no plans to pay it back
It actually does. If you borrow from the federal government, you're legally entitled to request a payment plan that's contingent upon personal income. In most cases, the monthly cap is 10% of an individual's disposable income. However, if you earn under a certain level, you can have "payments" of $0/month.
Time to move to better countries, Anglos.
and what do you think is going to happen when your income goes up?
I stick with the income-contingent repayment plan that entitles me to make reasonable payments, retard.
I know many people who tried to pull that in the UK and ended up selling drugs or having an ultra unstable life for many many years.
+you are indirectlly causing harm to yourself and your community.
You live in a rich country, so these things can hide under the carpet.
I am not so "lucky".
Uhh buddy, defaulting on a federal loan is among the stupidest thing you can possibly do. Like, you can potentially abuse private loans, but not old Uncle Sam. Those loans are with you forever. The government will use the court system to make sure every single penny of that loan is paid.
>availing a federal payment plan
>defaulting
Are you illiterate?
Not him, but I have friends in medical school. They tell me that a lot of doctors either live like peasants for a couple years to pay off all their debt or just don't bother trying and make tiny ass payments until they die.
Trust me on debts.
I have become quite aware of their perils in the last decade.
In my next life, I would like to study in Germany, France, Netherlands, Denarkmark or Sweden.
>just don't bother trying and make tiny ass
payments until they die.
that sounds absolutely horrid
also not him. not making payments at all is fucked up if you can afford it but i don't see the problem with income based plans. it makes you a cunt if you get a liberal arts degree and only pay back 1k per year on a 50k loan, but it's not possible to survive with dignity in america without a college education. i've seen positions for fucking secretaries asking for a bachelors + experience
Not really, from what I've heard. Don't quote me on the numbers, but I think a lot of physicians wind up having to pay about $1,000-$1,500 per month on their loans, with the average med school graduate being at least a quarter-million in debt.
Even family doctors make upwards of $20,000 per month.
Yeah, here fucking also.
In the older days you could get almost all trade licenses via Military service, education in European cunts was almost free and you could get a good job with a lykeio diploma.
Now the sometimes ask for a uni degree in warehouse positions.
I know you are right, but I probably have debt-phobia or something.
Recession and unregulated competition is no laughing matters.
what happens when they need a home loan and have a giant student loan already?
It's ok, just take out another loan.
Banks don't really treat student loans the same as other kinds of debt.
This shit is so fucked and seeing doctors complain about debt when they will be making $150k-200k+ (some specializations average $800k I believe) is infuriating. It is not so hard to just take a year or two to pay off your debt and then be debt free for life. There is a famous example of a doctor that barely made payments, graduated with a lot of debt, and just started buying a nice house, cars, etc and now his debt is like $1 million. I hope that fucker gets locked up
Deep if true
Probably can get it.
Fuck man, ten years ago they were blindly giving fucking holiday loans with no serious bckgrnd checks.
Overdrafts and legal loansharking.
Makes me dizzy.
U know what?
I had it hard, I crashed, I got depressed, etc etc, did super hard work and got in crazy shit, but I actually feel BLESSED that I don't have a loan hanging over my head right now!!!!
(Except my collective national one).
>imagine taking a loan ever in your life
>imagine this hunting you awareness that you are not square with everyone
>that you owe money and MUST pay it down some time
I mean I have 3k zl myself that I took for pleasure, but I'll pay it down hopefully soon
That doesn't change anything because you'll pay interest.
How are they going to get a mortgage when their student loan alone is worth of a small apartment
A lot of older people can remember when they paid off their student loans by working for a summer. It's gotten fucking insane.
top fucking kek Dmitrios
>tfw paid off student loans in a year and now debt free for life (except mortgage eventually)
This is such a foreign concept to me. I pay 1000 euros a year for public uni (which are the best) and that's because I can afford it, people who don't have the means to just don't pay anything and the state gives them 1200+ euros depending on the parents income bracket.
poor people qualify for free monies, especially if they have good high school scores, but most in debt are probably just middle class with no free money or good scholarships that take out more than they should for their projected job
>declining standards at universities allowed many people to go to college who really had no business being there
People did this a generation ago too.
>many of these individuals drop out with considerable debt or can't get a job after graduation.
Employers' standards are also crazy. They've risen as more people get degrees, even though there's no practical reason that you need a bachelor's for a typical service sector job. There's a lot of other standards they've raised for employment too.
People without good high school scores here tend to go to shitty degrees or to private universities, which are not nearly as expensive as yours.
Student loans and prices for education in america are a scam.
lol who pays back loans anyways
Yeah, oh well.
The triumph of the individual over society.
I unironically imagine myself living in marginalized ghettos when I think about my future.
I think something will happen soon that will change everything, for better or for worse (probably both). There's a lot of stress on young people and working class people, and IMHO it's not sustainable to keep that sort of system running for a long time.
huh?
Is that you Greece?
Only a scam if you are a dumbass that goes into a degree with a low pay, dont get scholarships, and take out a large amount of loans. Especially shit if you go to an out of state or private university in this situation as they cost much more. Most business, engineering, CS degrees will be fine either way, but if you are going into something with low pay you should be starting in community college for the first two years and going to an affordable school. Should take 5 years max to pay off the debt if you arent a numbskull
I feel so as well.
The paradigm shift and all.
Maybe all these Anime make sense if taken metaphysically.
I mean, I am 30.
When I compare the way I thought to ten years ago, the difference is just too big.
I bet the EU and US will go through serious internal changes and then fuse more or something.
The ride never ends for Ελλάς of light.
schools know they can charge literally anything and people will pay it thanks to generous (predatory) government loans
schools get their money, government gets their money, only one who gets screwed is the student.
You can't default on student loan debt
