German tourist in the US here. I thought it was just a stereotype but it's really true that Americans are more assertive, masculine, funny, and all around cool people that boring Western Europeans, and that includes every country that borders Germany. I must say however that the stereotype that they are stupid is wrong. In fact I would say they are more intelligent and less cocky and sophist than Europeans.

I've moved here a few months ago, having previously lived in Germany, (northern) England and Austria. What has been confirmed is that you Americans are fucking openly friendly and have no problem sharing fairly intimate details about their family life to some dude you just met on an airplane. Otherwise, I haven't spoken to a lot of people outside my work environment (yet), so can't say too much about that. I haven't quite figured out the rules of smalltalk yet, I find it weird and curious how I'm greeted/talked to at supermarkets etc.
