Australia is prosperous in the same way saudi arabia is prosperous. A large land with many resources. Of course we are rich, it is impossible not to be. We have natural resources, a large land surrounded by sea guarding us from invasion and no ethnic/religious conflicts, and great access to trade with China. But there is shitloads of waste and inefficiency in this country, the political bureaucracy. For example there was a huge mining boom in northern WA a few years back, kind of like oil in Arab countries. But just like Arab countries, the state government didn't use it wisely. They didn't use the profits to invest or build the economy or develop other areas of the economy. They literally just sucked the mineral proceeds for all they were worth, spent it on a few pet projects like stadiums and hand-outs/tax-cuts to help with re-election for the state government, and that was it. Now the mining boom is long gone and they are riddled with debt, what did they gain from it? that's just one example, there are many more.

Most australians don't care about politics, but they are sick of the instability that comes with a parliamentary democracy causing so much inefficiency in the management.

So what she did is that she unilaterally suspended the Dublin agreement (which Greece and Italy are actually opposing) to make Germany take the blow because our economy and society could take the blow in order to avert the crisis on the Balkans and find better longterm solitions in form of a Turkey deal, a European migration agreement or at least the establishment of a strong pan-European border force. So far the first has happened and the second two have not been put in place because of resistence of Eurosceptic governments who have used the crisis as a leverage to milk European funds but now migrant arrivals have dropped by like the factor of 20, so no one cares anymore.
