In scandinavia you learn english and another language as extra languages, you pick between spanish, german or french usually. I wanted to learn latin but that was only for people who picked a meme HS education.

You don't learn how to speak Latin, at least not on C level (one year), you only learn a fuckton of wierd grammar that is supposed to make you better at understanding the grammatical structure of other languages.

The only memorable part of it was a story we learned (that our teacher basically told us straight up because we were retarded) about Hercules fucking some princess on the altar of Poseidon.

I work with a Danish lad who writes in full Danish to his Norwegian customers and vice versa.

Well, you can more or less understand what they're saying, it's like trying to understand someone with a really heavy regional accent, like old yorkshire or one of those scottish ones where you have to actively decipher what they're saying while they speak. It's a lot easier in text, especially danish which is basically swedish or norwegian without any consonants when spoken.

I would think because no one else learns their language, it'd be even more important that they learn a foreign one. Especially because they are not a large country. There wouldn't be much of the world to visit, or much culture to consume, knowing only magyar.
