So I have a credit card debt of about $10,500 that I was planning on paying by end of year. But someone told me I should ask for a deal, and see if I can be let off if I pay $5,000 now instead to settle it. Has anyone ever done this before?

This typically works once your debt has been picked up by a collections agency. I'm not sure how it works for credit cards, but asking can't hurt. Perhaps talk to a debt relief specialist.
