Are there dead langs on italki or similar sites?

>Are you the Welsh-learning user? If so, how are your ll's coming along?
I am a welshboo but I am not learning it yet because that would mean I am learning four languages at the same time and I can't do that

shouldn't the symbol of the saxons be the horse, which were their own symbol instead of the dragon, which was something they took over from the celts?

who /polyglot/ here? im a bit of a language buff and already speak 4 languages: swedish, norweigan ,danish and english.

>C1 nonsubvocalising

i had the same thought
feels bad lads

That's the dragon of Wessex, the Saxon/English dragon is white (pic). And no, it wasn't stolen from the 'celts', the venerable Bede comments that the saxons and the Welsh both flew dragons. This is the earliest such reference to dragons of any kind.

>dragon.
that's a lindorm. it doesn't have hindlegs

Attached: EnglandWyrm.png (2000x1200, 134K)

I didn't say it was
>stolen
but it came to Saxons after the interaction with the island Celts. Meanwhile the founding brothers are literally called Horsa and Hengist, and their symbol was the horse.

Attached: pferdeköpfe.jpg (600x450, 21K)

Damn. I was worried about doing two at a time. Then again, I'm a lang-let.

Lately I've been playing with the idea of practicing the IPA sounds for no other reason than because it is fun. I might write a bot to crawl a wiktionary dump for all the words, divide them into unique syllables, and then practice making those noises without getting tongue-tied. I figure it would be easy enough to practice in spare moments. However, It's also a massively autistic waste of time.

>it's a mythic taxonomy episode

That's the traditional Wessex flag desu as mentioned in medieval writings, although this one is a modern interpretation ofc.

It's not like wyverns/dragons were not used left right and centre in europe for ages

it's more of a mythological story of the founding twins, like romulus and remus and the dioscuri than it is a historical thing
I think that's why horse symbols are identified with them, and other similar figures like castor and pollux, not because they actually sported those symbols

N-now is the time to learn

horsa and hengist are associated more with kent

well I am learning one, trying not to neglect another, and polishing the third one, so it´s not like I am actually learning three at the time in the strictest sense

Isn't that just 3?

Who else here learning an endangered language for heritage purposes?

You mean 2

Cool. I speak British, Australian, New Zealandian, American, South African, and Canadian.

Fun fact: the prince of Wales is Charlie Windsor and he not speak Welsh

My mistake. I was under the impression that Swedish was it's own language. Turns out it's also a Danish dialect like Norwegian.

Man, ik zweer het, ik ben zo zelfbewust
Dat is waarom je me ziet met minst een van me horloges
Rollie's en Pasha's maak me helemaal gek

>Native American langs
Yep. That's what I'm doing. ᏣᎳᎩ, to be precise.

does anyone think this anti-vaccination thing is a meme? Why is it suddenly a problem? people have always not vaccinated, usually hippies and organic eco moms

Heard on the grapevine that the CIA is up to something

I think it's not that big of a deal, the media is latching on to this ........ for some reason

HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM

And kids die from measles and the flu and shit. You know about Christian scientists? Back in like 2013 there were a few teenagers who died from the fucking flu because they didn't want to vaccinate or give medicine.

yeah, all 3 of the Christian scientists. There have always been a couple of weird hippie eco people who don't vaccinate, the Vargs of the world. I don't see why normies are paying so much attention to them all of a sudden

It's always been a problem but the measles outbreak is finally proving 'hey, you hippies are fuckin stupid'

Hippies by definition don't interact with normal society. They live innawoods, homeschool their kids, grow their own food, eat wild squirrels and shit

i fucking wish

in any case, they don't care if normal society thinks they're weird and wrong. They think we're weird and wrong, they already chose to live differently

Well

Almost language? Was it a dialect? What language?

Best place to learn preNorman Anglo?

masha danki :3

it's not really dying I think but it only has a few speakers, and most of them also speak 3 other languages. it's Papiamentu

>Papiamentu
First I've heard of it. Is it a heritage thing?

not really, it just sounds like a funny Portuguese and I also have interest in Dutch so I thought it would be a nice transition, considering it is basically a mix of Dutch and Spanish. probably how German is to English I guess? but not nearly as difficult

I hope you all had a relaxing Sunday

My English really sucks. These apps + Jow Forums + YouTube + Windows and Android in English are enough to get the intermediate level of the language?

First of all, stop wasting your time here or on 55chan. Second of all; none of those apps will help you, the only one that could do it is duo, but still not as useful as it should be and is only useful if you don't know shit about the target language.

Start to live in english. Change the language of all your devices, if you have to do a research on something, do it in english, start to watch tv show in english with sub also in english (only sitcoms cause there is a lot of talking), search for the mos 1000 words and find them in a context (always in a context) to put in some spaced repetition system like anki, find some simple text for kids with audio, read while listening, do ir over and over again. 50x a day for 3 days in a row the same text...

by doing these things you will reach intermediate level within 6 months

Who wants to read about aphids? I drew and wrote it myself

> Ameisen und Blattläuse leben zusammen in Symbiose.
> Ameisen sammeln und essen den Honigtau der Blattläuse. Die Blattläuse sind wie Nutztiere. Die Ameisen „melken“ auch den Blattläusen.

> Im Gegenzug schützen die Ameisen die Blattläuse von Fressfeinden, wie Insekten, Spinnen und Vögeln.

Ants and aphids live together in symbiosis.
Ants collect and eat the honeydew of aphids. The aphids are like farm animals. The ants also “milk” the aphids.

In return, the ants protect the aphids from predators, such as insects, spiders and birds.

Ant ant

So I'm learning ᏣᎳᎩ (Tsa-la-gi. the Cherokee language). I'm getting the syllabary down before I start increasing my vocabulary. Still a handful (and they aren't used as frequently as the others) I get mixed up but I know about 7 out of the 84 by heart.

I don't live super close the reservation anymore so when I do start increasing my vocabulary I'll be talking to some of my relatives to make sure I have the pronunciation right.

Thing is I won't always be able to do that. Is translating works into your target language a good way to learn the language if you can't constantly talk to people in it? Or is there something else I should do?

Are there media in Cherokee, or just books?

what the hell am i supposed to do with all these?

Attached: Screen Shot 2019-02-18 at 12.53.42 AM.png (142x78, 9K)

>10xp per day
nigga are you even trying?

There are mostly books. The Bible, educational material, a few novels, etc. I've read that the Hobbit is being translated so I emailed the translation department since they would probably know but I haven't gotten an email back yet.

The Cherokee Phoenix (Cherokee Nation's newspaper) is bilingual so there are still new things constantly being written in the language but as far as audio goes it's not a whole lot. And most is for the more common of the two dialects which isn't the one I'm trying to learn. They're 100% mutually intelligible but I'm also trying to focus on not being too influenced by it.

if you can find media, that would be best. You could translate them, put in the Cherokee and English words on screen, and upload them on Youtube. Even simple things like 2 Cherokee girls talking about what they ate or simple dialogue

hoard them

Cool. I'll try that. There is one thing that supposed to be really good (and is kinda advertised by the Eastern Band (one of the 3 tribes)) but it's a pretty pricey online program. $400 per level (of which there are 4) which I'm not going to be able to do until June at the earliest. Only the first level at first.

seems pretty normal price for a language course. I paid $350 for 12 weeks of German. It really helped

Yeah. I think it'll be necessary sooner or later. The language has got a lot of weird rules and a lot of the native speakers (there are only like 220 in the Eastern Band now) and people smarter than I am say it's innovative and successful in the way it approaches the teaching. But until then I'll try translating.

slow and steady wins da race

>tfw no symbiotic aphid friends

>page 7

>perchè
Conjunctions with "-che" (finché, poiché, perché and so on) want the acute accent. It doesn't really change much though, just an ortography rule.
>ch'è filo
c'è il/un filo.
It goes without saying that, on Italian websites, we all call it "thread". "Filo" is just a humorously literal translation Italian 4channers use.
There are short stories, if you feel confident enough at your level.

Slight corrections:
>Die Ameisen „melken“ auch den Blattläusen.
Should be "Die Ameisen melken die Blattläuse auch".
> Im Gegenzug schützen die Ameisen die Blattläuse von Fressfeinden, wie Insekten, Spinnen und Vögeln.
"... die Blattläuse vor Fressfeinden..."

Cute aphids desu
