Basically nobody in Ireland speaks their ancient language though. Even the fucking Welsh speak their ancient language more than those lazy Irishmen.
wich ones?
i can only think of scottish and welsh
And the Cornish.
canada has 2 official languages and dozens of native ones
canada a deux langues officielles et des dizaines de langues autochtones
it doesn't count if they are somewhat mutually intelligible
We have 68 Amerindian languages.
Welsh Gaelic, Scottish Gaelic, English, Irish, Cornish, Norman-English (in places like Sark) , Ulster Scots, Scots.
the only different language there is basque
Hello there!
Fuck the french and fuck the natives
We don't need all of those languages.
Maltese to speak among ourselves.
English to speak to pesky foreigners.
Italian is also known by the majority of the population via TV, ties with Italy etc.
an average spaniard can't understand catalan, even galician is quite hard, and basque is a completelly separate language branch entirely
dont speak about things you know nothing about if you never studied spanish
Don't you guys speak Arabic?
Hello.
>Cornish practically a dialect of Welsh
>Scots practically a dialect of English
>Scottish Gaelic practically a dialect of Irish
>Ulster Scots is a made up dialect of Scots and therefore English
yikes
lmao sure you don't
My post has your answer.

Hi there, there are more than 200 native languages in Russia

Dead and languages like swedish not count
Dialects not languages
Do all the Indian languages count? If so then we have hundreds
i can pick up some words but i cant understand the majority of it or most phrases
same with italian
Posting
>italian "dialects" are all languages that evolved separately
every other spaniard I talk to seems to think they understand much more than that, are they lying
No.
GTFO.
did you only meet catalans?
i think catalan is actually closer to italian than spanish
i used to watch a catalan "zapping" show called APM and I always skipped the parts in catalan, thats the main reason i even know what catalan sounds like and how different it is

Ok lads lets speak russian prison language
Romanian
Hungarian
German (locally 2 dialects Schwab and Saxon) but not really used anymore
2 types of Gyppo speech, one is Northern Paki the other Iranian sounding
Yiddish, historically
Were some Ukrainian like languages in the North but not anymore.
You'll find Turks and Bulgarians in the South.
Bosting
>did you only meet catalans?
maybe, are catalans rich kids?
that would be a deformation of russian. standard italian is just the dialect of florence on that map, what's so hard to understand?
But Papua New Guinea has more than 800!
most catalans are richer than the average spaniard so maybe
"Dialect" has a completely different connotation in Italian than in English. In Italian it simply means "regional language", in English it means "regional variant of a national language". The only dialect in Italy that matches the English definition of dialect is Roman, the rest are languages that evolved independently, some like the Northern Italian dialects are more closely related to Occitan. In any case we have a bunch of officially recognized language minorities that are unequivocally not Italian dialects of any sort, like Albanian, Croatian, German, Franco-provenzal, Slovenian, Catalan and so on.
blah-blah-blah
pathetic excuses
Russian is a dialect of Ukrainian.
*Ukranian dialect of Russian

>There are around 70 distinct Indigenous languages in Canada
So have at you
what is the most spoken language in canada besides english and french?
yes, i think i am welcome :^)
dutch, frisian, low-saxon and limburgish
English, Mandarin, Tamil, Malay. some Tagalog & Bengali
ITT: dialects = official languages
dialects are understandable by the mother tongue speakers
galician and catalan are not
No es que no os entendamos bien cuando hablais en vuestros "idiomas", os entendemos perfectamente.
Lo hacemos por joder, sinceramente.
El vasco es un chiste que tienen los vascos para molestar, en realidad no significa nada.

Claro, seguro que tambien entiendes el italiano o el frances.
no seas tan tontico que se te nota la mentalidad de forocoches
vete a dar "zascas" a otra pagina
If anything Galician is a Portuguese dialect.
You can see there are 6/7 different language clusters (the different colours) that arent mutually intelligible, the dialects are the subdivisions within each language (those small "provinces")
And that's without counting friulan, ladin, sardinian, catalan, german, occitan, arpitan, slovenian, croatian, greek and albanian
No, they're not, retard. They're just strong dialects like in many other countries. You have Ladin, Friulan, Arpitan and German for proper minority languages.
If a separate language is defined by mutual unintelligibility then in Egypt there is Delta (Mainstream Egyptian), Saidi and Bedawi Arabic; in addition to Siwan Berber and Nubian which are from different language families.
Not sure if Coptic counts, last native speakers may or may have not died some years ago.
Anyway, posting.
psshhtt...nothin personnel neef
both galician and portuguese come from medieval galician
i guess they could be considered the same language, but galician has grammar from spanish and portuguese doesnt.

>strong dialects
aka languages with less prestige than the standard
Venetian and Sicilian have a very low degree of mutual intelligibility with each other and with standard Italian. Czech and Slovak or Russian and Ukrainian probably have higher intelligibility.
Why do you consider Friulian to be a legitimate independent language but not the others?
Entras a Jow Forums solo a baitear cacho subnormal?
Y como es que posteas desde USA, no tenías que beber en Castilla o es que te pagan más por chupar pollas en Florida?
lol put terroni and polentoni next to eachother and they wont understand eachother for shit
Nothing personell, languagelets
It's not a dialect, it's a language split off from a common root that originally split off from latin like all romance languages.
Galician has the same recognition and protection as Catalan and Euskera.
We have 5, so yay.
Tengo un buen trabajo y me pagan bien.
Tu que, ya te has sacado la ESO?
Hablo frances tambien desu pero lo tengo bastante olvidado
Actually 6, forgot Swedish.

why tho?
we love anglos and low key larp as their distant cousins
also tourism
norwegian, kven, and all the different sami languages
you medoid idiots keep thinking dialects = dialects
But dialects are dialects?
Galician and Catalan are romance languages and Basque is a pre indo european language, the three are co-official in their respective territories.
No, they're not languages, they're precisely fucking strong dialects, you colossal brainlet. Italian is not the only pluricentric language and the autistic babble about Veneziano and Napoletano being "totally like different languages I wouldn't understand a word" is pure tripe. You're they're over 90% percent mutually intelligible and a couple shifted vowels or different inflection forms doesn't make the distance between them akin to that between Bantu and Hungarian. Stop being autistic about your shitty regiolect.
dialects = languages* whoops
Probably for administrative reasons.
Eres el puto schizo subnormal seguro
Galician and Catalan are just Spanish dialects, the only proper language you have outside of them is Basque
No, este es otro. El schizo apenas puede hablar castellano. Este es otro subnormal.
lol no Galician is a lot more Portoguese
here's an example
Sige rabiando galleguayo
Vete a un festival celta a llorar
Galician and Catalan are dialects of Castillian as much as Italian and French are dialects of Castillian.
They have the same age.
>Galician and Catalan are just Spanish dialects
nope, the real issue is the accent, galicians have a closer accent to castillians than to portuguese so it's much easier to understand them but wrtitten portuguese and galician are very close
El catalan es un dialecto de las lenguas de oc que los jacobinos franceses se cargaron.
Como deberiamos haber hecho nosotros hace 200 años.
How hard is it to find our word for dog?
I've seen your language I'm going to guess it's quite hard.
Amazing, please tell me more about your vast knowledge of italian languages
That's fucking retarded, galician is closer to portugese than spanish
According to you two you could just say that all romance languages are dialects of latin and be done with it
The truth is that dialect is a vague concept without a clear definition, in most cases what are called dialects are just language with less prestige than another language related to them
Case in point: the multitude of arabic languages are called dialects even tho they arent intelligible at all just because they are less prestigious than classical arabic
>Can
literally the same word as in spanish
>txakurra
txakurrak kanpora

Your screenshot says the API doesn't yet translate all languages, so I guess that's why. I didn't read that in the first place.
And there is a shitton of literature in galician
It's mutually intelligible with regular spanish, therefore it's a dialect. Many linguists consider the Scandinavian languages to just be one language because of this, outside of icelandic and faroese. Just because you want to be quirky and cool with your meme dialects doesn't make them any more of a separate language
They are officially languages.
