Poor people see more immediate returns in spending on a TV then saving for the pipedream of a house or college education.

College is still a gamble if you grew up with uneducated parents, uninspiring teachers and subpar peers, which just between Appalachia, depressed factory towns and the urban ghettos is a big chunk of this country. It requires taking on a lot of debt(something not many poor people have ever done), picking the right degree(which tends to evade even a lot of well off people) and more or less entering a different culture in the professional world(its easy to pick out who grew up like this and who didn't).

well not to dickwave but I've made more than that in the US (my home country) and currently make more than that in Germany.

I find the middle class life immensely preferable in Germany because your average person can have a decent life here. Cashiers get to sit down and people on the bus talk about their vacations.

Your average American is miserable and debt-saddled and tax dollars do nothing to help anybody, pretty much go directly to the already bloated military budget. You have to drive everywhere and half the people you see outside are fat and the very fattest people have terrible or no healthcare.

I see no joy in being among the aristocratic 10% who make a decent income in such a situation, lower taxes notwithstanding.

Btw, at that income rate you are not in the 10% which means your earned wealth is being skimmed year over year. But enjoy the slightly higher take-home pay, and good luck with health insurance if you should ever get laid off.

But you're missing the larger point, which is that people in other countries are not constantly stressed out about means testing and the benevolence of private/public subsidies. They get services and care that are free at point of service.
