We have a lot of Mormons in Britain, at least compared to other countries. Not sure why that is. I went to school with a guy who was from a Mormon family, all of them were British born too. He ended up going on some missionary trip to Africa.

Personally I find Mormon beliefs very strange and offputting. But, that said, I always remember thinking Mitt Romney seemed like a very nice and polite guy in a personal sense.

Religion in Europe is more like a cultural thing.
We like the rituals and customs and buildings,etc. because we feel they are part of our culture.
We don't wanna actually hear someone preach, because this wacky shit out of the bible is kinda off putting.
It's ok maybe once a week from a priest where you can just phase out for 10 minutes, but even they know we don't wanna be bothered too much with this stuff.
When normal people start talking about religion and citing the bible it's extremely suspicious to us.
They are immediatly seen as either mad or con artists and since mormons talk about religion constantly they too fall in that category.

I am an atheist myself so I can't really talk for religious people.

My mother for example would describe herself as religious and goes to church almost ervery week. She is a very kind women and she mostly enjoys her priests preachings about recent events.

But when she meets some bible reciting Jehovas whitness or something on the street she is as much put off by it as I am.
I don't think it's because she somehow dislikes different Christian religions, she just just doesn't want to be bothered with theology and their slogans.
She doesn't agree with a lot of catholic teachings either and I'm pretty sure she has never read the bible.

I think because in Europe after centuries of war between proestants and catholics, religion has become a very personal and private thing and so we are instinctively repulsed by missionaries of any kind.
