What is it like to live in Tokyo?
People usually either love it or hate it. I'm curious why. Are the people who dislike Tokyo so much just the "I wanted a quiet house in the countryside, I didn't realise that coming to a city with a population of 40 million would be different" type of people?

I loved living in Sapporo and I think Ueno might be more up my ally, but there really are too many people in Shinjuku, so that's why I hate Tokyo.

To me, Tokyo seems like it was a lot of fun to live in 20 years ago.
I love it. I hate the countryside. I wouldn't live anywhere else, I fell in love with this city 3 years ago, it's great. Although the north and north east parts of the city are a shithole. Luckily I'm in one of the most beautiful neighborhoods, Sakurashimmachi.

Kyoto can often be just as as crowded as Tokyo. The Gion area in particular is Shinjuku-tier

Seoul, Shanghai, Bangkok or even Taipei are way more fun than Tokyo when it comes to just going out and having fun. Tokyo might be better if you want to go to an underground music venue and listen to local bands or DJs, but it's too inconvenient and overpriced for most other things. also it's annoying how early everything closes in Tokyo compared to similar cities like Seoul
