I have a car but I take the train to and from work anyway.
Every single time I drive I end up stuck in traffic, having to take different routes thanks to road work and all that crap.
On the train I can just sit down, browse the internet on the trains fast as fuck wifi and chill.
I often get an extra 45 minutes of sleep on the train as well, that is a damn glorious thing.

because america is a very large country with minimal road traffic outside of dense areas, and said dense areas already have subway systems, and subways in such places like new york are under such heavy use that it would be incredibly difficult to stop use for them for even a couple days for upgrades, people would chimp out in the streets

Tb h i live in chicago and we have a super based train system here, too many americans dont know what they are missing. I havnt had a car in 7 years, saved alot of money not needing one or having to deal with parking or getting anywhere in bad snow storms. Plus the train system here is elevated in alot of the city and its cool as fuck like youre on a rollercoaster zooming 40 ft above ground and buildings and get great views of the city. Really dont understand why people bitch about the CTA because it is 100% based. I lived in denver for a couple years and the pubtrans was useless and terrible, i was surprised because it is a pretty big, major city. You need a car to live in colorado/smaller cities and more rural places. Auto industry has america by the balls

The summary is that they were grossly behind schedule, didn't invest the state's share like they were supposed to, blew a lot of money already and then said they wouldnt do the whole project they originally planned. This all grossly breached contract for the federal funds so trump he already hated California's politicians told them to go fuck themselves.
They previously also set us back. Keep in mind they were warned about this section when the project was being built.

Except here it's literally the opposite. To go from here to Toronto it costs more than twice that of an airline ticket, and takes 4 days, as opposed to 5 hours by plane. With a car I can go anywhere I want in complete privacy, and traffic does't really happen outside of major cities. I don't understand why Euros don't see that rail is a shit way of travelling in North America

But regardless trains are expensive compared to travel by car. Pic related shows that going 500km from Stockholm to Lund costs $70 to $100 per person. At 6 USD/gallon for gas, it would cost $52 for gas. For a party of four, it would cost 4 - 5 times more to travel by train. In Europe.

NYC resident here, it's impossible. Someone got the idea that keeping severely mentally people in institutions was mean so we ended up with crazy homeless people who unless they assault someone are left loitering or riding the rails rambling insane shit, yelling and stinking up whole cars. Ok, you euroniggers need to know something about the way that American cities are designed.
My city of 500,000 is about the same size as Tokyo, I live 8 miles from downtown and i'm in a suburb, along with 90% of all Americans. Are you saying that I should drive down to the train station, find parking, then take the train? How about when I get off of the train? I can't go anywhere without a car because everything is too spread out. Also busses won't work because you can't make the routes cost effective in suburbs.
Amtrak isnt bad but most state pilot metro trains are like taking a crowded grey hound bus that randomly stops and is delayed 20 minutes because they cant maintain their signal system or engines.
It wouldn't be cost effective outside of the windsor to Quebec city corridor. I'm all for electrification, and upgrading the track for that route, but nowhere else has the population density to support it, without insane government subsidies

You don't know how gross our trains can be and smelly pajeet and homeless Roscoe arent stinking up my car, no one is loudly talking on a cell phone, no one is begging, no one is blasting shitty music, no one is having a psychotic break in front of me. Even with traffic I'm in my nice climate controlled quit car, sitting in a leather seat, everything smells good, I listening to the music I want to on a good stereo and there is peace around me. The only positive to a train is I could read or watch a movie but that fails if you have to stand on a commuter train.

How would you efficiently build rail from say Boston to ST.Louis? Boston to NYC to Chicago (assuming you ignored the fiscal efficiency of including major cities in NJ, Pennsylvania, Ohio and Indiana) to St.Louis (again skipping any other cost efficient stops)? You would be taking a fuel/time inefficient trip (even skipping logical detours) that would be more expensive than a flight.

We do all the time and it sucks dick. It's slower than driving (slightly faster than a bus), smells, is filled with insane people, is never on time, is held for periods of time nowhere near a station.
