We would rather build walls and missiles. Thats why. Our trains suck but atleast they wont be destroyed in the inevitable wars on the horizon.
Ryan Reed
Because that's literally communism
Jordan Green
I would rather listen to my own music in a comfy car than listen to a homeless black man rave about the devil in a shitty train

HSR in America is in the making.

Then stop having shitty trains full of homeless people..
Josiah Robinson
only homeless take trains, because they can't afford cars
Aiden Perez
trains are for cargo, planes are for people
Carson Price
I see. How dreadful. My boss even rides the train and he's the head of a gigantic company.
Logan Smith
>I don't understand population density
Air, and car travel will remain the primary king in North America for the foreseeable future

I hate this meme so much but... this is the mkst soybo.i thing ive ever read
Lincoln Clark
mutt mad because he cant afford the luxury of traveling by train
Sebastian Harris
>watching a movie during a long train trip
Comfy

I have a car but I take the train to and from work anyway.
Every single time I drive I end up stuck in traffic, having to take different routes thanks to road work and all that crap.
On the train I can just sit down, browse the internet on the trains fast as fuck wifi and chill.
I often get an extra 45 minutes of sleep on the train as well, that is a damn glorious thing.
Dominic Nelson
>just build a train from Reno to Miami bro
US is a huge country with a spread out population it wouldn't be cost effective
Eli Stewart
Sounds like the homeless are the real issue there tbqh
Angel Jones
It isn't luxury when I have to sit next to someone who smells like BO or is sick.
Alexander Sanders
so is russia
Chase Taylor
It's different here. We have roads to access everywhere. Going by train means taking a few extra bus stops and some walking to get somewhere.
Owen Myers
I wish we had better train transit. I hate driving so much.
Anthony Ramirez
it isn't cost effective in russia either.

Everytime I see an Italian flag post I seethe with anger. You live in Paradise and you are just rubbing it in.
Cameron Russell
trains are for poor people.
Christopher Stewart
how can you not see the difference? are you autistic?
I own 3 cars but always prefer the train for long distance + short stay trips because why not just take a nap while someone else takes you there instead of staying focused driving for hours and hours for no reason
Cameron Perry
give us our IC4 trains terroni
Jose Thompson
not true
Levi Ross
imagine cramming yourself and your family into a sweaty asscrack smelling gas guzzler just to be stuck in traffic for hours on end instead of being able to pay someone else to take care of all the logistics while you enjoy a filling meal and then return to your cabin to shitpost with laptop or watch tv while resting in your bunk
Xavier Moore
then niggers would have unlimited access to every single place in america
this essentially
Levi Bailey
Because they are pointless waste of money that will serve a niche population do a niche activity.

Trains are the most expensive way to travel.
Xavier Jackson
Trains are based. At least when the country has nice ones and we do here.
>free wifi
>clean toilets

>usb charging at the seats
>no crazy people
>no poor people
I spend 2 hours every day on trains. It's the most comfy part of the day actually.
Alexander Nelson
because america is a very large country with minimal road traffic outside of dense areas, and said dense areas already have subway systems, and subways in such places like new york are under such heavy use that it would be incredibly difficult to stop use for them for even a couple days for upgrades, people would chimp out in the streets
James Watson
it's what happens with airports outside of the cites, not with trains....
Brandon Sullivan
>using proprietary software while being on a train ride which itself is running on proprietary software
Aiden Nelson
Nah, driving is the most expensive. 6 USD/gallon for gas plus parking and service costs? Nope, I'm good with a train/tram.
James Thomas
Tb h i live in chicago and we have a super based train system here, too many americans dont know what they are missing. I havnt had a car in 7 years, saved alot of money not needing one or having to deal with parking or getting anywhere in bad snow storms. Plus the train system here is elevated in alot of the city and its cool as fuck like youre on a rollercoaster zooming 40 ft above ground and buildings and get great views of the city. Really dont understand why people bitch about the CTA because it is 100% based. I lived in denver for a couple years and the pubtrans was useless and terrible, i was surprised because it is a pretty big, major city. You need a car to live in colorado/smaller cities and more rural places. Auto industry has america by the balls
Jason Sanders
planes tickets are cheaper than train t.b.h
Adrian Stewart
We have "high speed rail" the problem is we would have to completely redo are rail and eminent domain is a sore subject here. Also, California just set it back decades by being cheap and incompetent.
The summary is that they were grossly behind schedule, didn't invest the state's share like they were supposed to, blew a lot of money already and then said they wouldnt do the whole project they originally planned. This all grossly breached contract for the federal funds so trump he already hated California's politicians told them to go fuck themselves.
They previously also set us back. Keep in mind they were warned about this section when the project was being built.
capitolweekly.net
Our liberal poster child is literal an environmental disaster that serves as an example of why America can fuck everything up.
Daniel Baker
Except here it's literally the opposite. To go from here to Toronto it costs more than twice that of an airline ticket, and takes 4 days, as opposed to 5 hours by plane. With a car I can go anywhere I want in complete privacy, and traffic does't really happen outside of major cities. I don't understand why Euros don't see that rail is a shit way of travelling in North America
Christopher Hill
Canada needs high speed rail badly, too.
We have shitty engineers and city planners in all of our cities.
Been talking to a few co-workers, and we definitely need expertise from Europe and/or Japan. Fuck, our transportation system is a fucking joke.
Jaxson Thomas
Cock jockey we used to have rail all over and it was the product of capitalism but then the rail workers union literally made it unprofitable with their demands and truckers better known as the Teamsters took over. Now we have old railroads that are hiking trails all thanks to the glory of organized labor who wanted more than what they were worth.
Parker Parker
are you saying that all of Russia can get around by train?
Lincoln Cook
>in North America
>implying it's a NA problem and not just a lack of rails problem
just because you wont make it work doesnt mean it couldnt work. pic is a finnish train cabin, the couches fold to reveal beds.
Cameron Price
it's 30 cents/liter here
Blake Wright
You guys don't even have HSR.
But regardless trains are expensive compared to travel by car. Pic related shows that going 500km from Stockholm to Lund costs $70 to $100 per person. At 6 USD/gallon for gas, it would cost $52 for gas. For a party of four, it would cost 4 - 5 times more to travel by train. In Europe.
Leo King
>wikipedia
????
Did you mean something about wikilinks?
NYC resident here, it's impossible. Someone got the idea that keeping severely mentally people in institutions was mean so we ended up with crazy homeless people who unless they assault someone are left loitering or riding the rails rambling insane shit, yelling and stinking up whole cars. I've dealt with two the last two mornings. I luckily haven't recently heard anyone talking about how God saved him from drug addiction or someone telling people men cant stand in front of them because homosexuality is a sin while talking about gay sex the rest of the ride.
If you wonder why American posters get annoyed with SJWs and liberal politicians it's because shit like this is a product of their brilliant ideas.
Ayden Brooks
>Just build some trains you american retards
Ok, you euroniggers need to know something about the way that American cities are designed.
My city of 500,000 is about the same size as Tokyo, I live 8 miles from downtown and i'm in a suburb, along with 90% of all Americans. Are you saying that I should drive down to the train station, find parking, then take the train? How about when I get off of the train? I can't go anywhere without a car because everything is too spread out. Also busses won't work because you can't make the routes cost effective in suburbs.
Lincoln Evans
Amtrak isnt bad but most state pilot metro trains are like taking a crowded grey hound bus that randomly stops and is delayed 20 minutes because they cant maintain their signal system or engines.
Eli Jenkins
Daniel Torres
It wouldn't be cost effective outside of the windsor to Quebec city corridor. I'm all for electrification, and upgrading the track for that route, but nowhere else has the population density to support it, without insane government subsidies

Plus toll prices and parking... Parking here in Stockholm alone is 15$/hour on average.
Not to mention that those train prices are complete bull. Year cards, memberships and discounts drops the train tickets way low.

that is just the train station though, how do people far from the train station or small villages near the train sation get there?

You don't know how gross our trains can be and smelly pajeet and homeless Roscoe arent stinking up my car, no one is loudly talking on a cell phone, no one is begging, no one is blasting shitty music, no one is having a psychotic break in front of me. Even with traffic I'm in my nice climate controlled quit car, sitting in a leather seat, everything smells good, I listening to the music I want to on a good stereo and there is peace around me. The only positive to a train is I could read or watch a movie but that fails if you have to stand on a commuter train.
Daniel Garcia
>>clean toilets
Most of ours dont thanks to junkies and homeless.
Tyler Nguyen
Year cards and memberships are not free.
Even if you double the price of gas for the car and halve the train fare, it is still cheaper to travel by car if you have more than 2 in a car.

Car manufacturer lobbying in the 1950s and 60s. You gotta remember that the automotive industry had an astronomical amount of lobbying power in the US and still does (here too) since they're a major component of the economy (pic related is Canada).
This lobbying, combined with marketing forcing the idea of car = independence, lead to complete destruction of funding for public funding.
Noah Kelly
I take the train you scum. I also drive a bmw m3 2017 and I don’t want to deal with parking .

all these jackass americans.
Obviously these wouldn't be for local shit but for mid to long distance travel. $20 for a ticket would keep the homeless away. Be split into regions too.

The car industry is strong in Germany and Japan too. It boils down to population density.

Pekka our countries are huge. Our major cities are all spread out. A few N/S lines wont work as we lack the nordic penis shape to our countries. How would you efficiently build rail from say Boston to ST.Louis? Boston to NYC to Chicago (assuming you ignored the fiscal efficiency of including major cities in NJ, Pennsylvania, Ohio and Indiana) to St.Louis (again skipping any other cost efficient stops)? You would be taking a fuel/time inefficient trip (even skipping logical detours) that would be more expensive than a flight.
Carter Price
>Euro and Nip Trains

honestly hope we get trains and subways so the streets will be less packed when i drive to work
Ethan Baker
The problem with literally anything "free" in the US is niggers. See, we say niggers a lot and you guys think its just a meme, but imagine having over a tenth of your population being useless for literally fucking anything and consistently ruining things for everyone else. Many places do have public or cheap transportation but its almost always ruined by squatters and blacks which make it unappealing for normal people who don't like stepping in some dudes piss on the way to work or watching someone eat a bucket of kfc (this has happened to me before). So tl;dr, niggers and it was and will always be niggers.
Ethan Watson
We do all the time and it sucks dick. It's slower than driving (slightly faster than a bus), smells, is filled with insane people, is never on time, is held for periods of time nowhere near a station.
t.NYC
unless you want to pay $25 a day parking it's the only option. My commute would literally be half the time and more pleasant.

i think that trains in finland are expensive and shitty. It's cheaper to travel with car or even plane. I think that trains are for wealthy people only, i have to drive myself with my car
