I believe in god.

It's ok we can't all be born smart

City of god

God is a sick bastard if he exists

this is the dead-horse argument after the history of philosophy

what we atheists see isn't whether or not god exist, that is moot, there is no rational discussion about existence as a physical question

but the question of faith solely hinges on what is called the community of believers, what we have then is a place or context in which god can and does exist, that is the shared commonality between the people that believe god is the precise justification that is needed for god to exist

so yes, technically you and more precisely others, must believe in god, as god needs believers as much as believers need god

alternatively if you have god in your heart you already find the paradise on earth, the second coming and so on, the revelation of jesus is that as long as the belief in him is alive in some people he is already here among you, that is precisely the meaning of christianity

This isn’t high school, stop trying to hit the world limit.
If it can’t be proven to exist then it doesn’t exist. It’s not any more complicated than that.

which one?

I'm not saying he doesn't exist. I can't prove that. But if he does, he's a sick bastard and deserve to have his creations pull themselves apart.

no, that is elementary thinking, lack of proof doesn't disprove
ie, we can go on to eternity without ever finding the proof against existence, it would be a dark future for people who rely on that kind of thinking

Good for you, I don't.

>lack of proof doesn't disprove
It’s literally in the semantics of the word.

How so?

You aren't a true atheist. A true atheist would fall into an existential crisis.

Theists and atheists are not different. One believes what he does not know in a positive way, another believes what he does not know in a negative way. Both are believers of something that they do not know. Why can't you just admit, “I do not know?

What are your interests? What are your hobbies? Those interests, hobbies and responsibilities prevent you from having an existential crisis.

People believe in God and creation to prevent an existential crisis.

I was going mad when i was an atheist. I questioned about extraterrestrials, God, other planets, why we have technology, evolution etc etc.

Why did i do this? Because i went a week without Jow Forums. I don't really have any other source of entertainment besides Jow Forums. It's either google, youtube or Jow Forums.

I don't watch tv shows, netflix, anime, porn, movies etc etc. Haven't for years. I also don't play video games which many people my age play.

So when i cut out Jow Forums and just watched youtube and used google for a week, i went into a full blown existential crisis.

Mind you, i don't have little to no family or friends or anyone to talk to since i had no social media or online friends.

A true atheist falls into existential crisis and questions everything and goes mad. Overthinking is very very unhealthy. I recovered btw

Don't mind him he's just being edgy

New testament god.

I'm gonna assume you're talking about god being a sick bastard. How I can't prove it is pretty obvious.

All the unnecessary pain that exist to me proves god would be a sick bastard. Sure I can accept that some pain might be necessary to be human, but the level of pain that has gone unnoticed throughout history is way above that.

I believe in God the Father almighty
Maker of heaven and earth

i have little to no family*

>Why can't you just admit, “I do not know?
Religious people wouldn't say that
only an agnostic would say i don't know

it gets better

>I believe in God

I'm agnostic, but you are clearly projecting how a atheist would behave.

What if "overthinking" led me to logically conclude there is a god?

>logically conclude there is a god
You can not logically conlude there isn't one, that would be irrational. We might or might not be living in a world made from god, no way to tell.

Sometimes im an atheist, others im an evangelical its crazy

agnostic people are more focused on life itself than identifying whether he or she believes in god or is an atheist.

Just do Pascal's Wager

So how painless would the world have to be in order to convince you that God isn't a "sick bastard?" If the worst thing that could ever happen was stubbing your toe or something, would you consider God less of a sicko?

To me, the huge ammount of unfair human (and animal) suffering throughout history disproves the idea of a benevolent god.
Not op btw

I believe in ALL the Gods!
t. Deist

life and logic synonymous. Logic is only
mathematical. But of course, you will have a different idea. Logic isn't good with person, its only good with numbers.

Man has been conditioned to think life and logic are synonymous

That's not what I said. I can tolerate some level of pain.

But when the pain for the people is what overrides their entire existence, that's when I think god have failed. If we are engineered beings from his image, then his image is pretty sick or underdeveloped.

God might not care that we suffer, and that's why I despise him. Because we do suffer at his hands, he could lift his hands to fix it but does not. To me this shows that we're not his priority.

life and logic aren't synonymous*

I’m a deist. I believe in a creator, or a first cause with a will at the very least, but if you think some bronze-age goat herders divined the nature of this deity and its preferences then you’re an absolute retard

life is all about suffering. Suffering creates growth or misery. Misery leads to depression and eventually suicide.

Take it how you will.

Broke:Arguing over religion for hours to no end
Woke:Realising that no matter how valid or how compelling your argument is, you will never convince the other side about the merits of your argument.

be optimistic or be trapped in fear. I don't see any other way.

top yikes post

That might be true, but in this system god doesn't exist for me. He is a entity that could have stopped it and we're like his ants in a bottle. Because if he exists he treats us like dirt for his own gain

it was the most spiritual thing i ever experienced. My "third eye" was throbbing so hard for 3 days straight. Its lightly throbbing now.

my projection is, your parents forced you to believe in god? Am i right?

God is a meanie

>my projection is, your parents forced you to believe in god? Am i right?
No they didn't, god has never been a part of my life other than national holidays.

atheists never fucking woke me up on the weekend trying to talk to me about their no god and giving me pamphlets

so fuck religious people, cunts who don't respect other people sleep on their day off deserve all the suffering
is this kind of shit a US thing only, what about your country?

me, a radical centrist: umm, actually jesus DID exist but he was just some carpenter guy who did and said all the parts except the miracles and ressurection

bold stance to be in ireland i reckon

Its funny cause in abrahamic religions (islam, judaism and christianity) you are supposed to believe in god no matter what. In hinduism, no one gives 2 shits.

My aunt is jehovas and I can see how it's destroyed her family. My grandmother (Her mother) won't talk to her, she stole money from her uncle to fund the jehovas ect.

I don't blame "god" for this, she was a shit human. But there are other things that god could have done to make humans suffer less, and it's not been done. So either we are an experiment or he isn't there.

I can't bring my understanding further unless I start making assumptions

I'm actually sami, that might be why though. Some of my grandparents really believed, but those that didn't still held the sami spirituality higher than "god religion"

>one thread was about finland taking away jehovah witness military exemption
>here is a norwegian complain about them
>and their origin is acutally from fucking US in the 19th century
Kinda amazing how these stupid shit (modern "christianity" shite) spread from the US to way up north of Europe. I guess this is partly why they keep knocking on doors, eventually they gonna get somebody

>Because if he exists he treats us like dirt for his own gain

yeah, you are a def an atheist. I can see why.

Jehovas praise on the weak..

I'm not atheist thought, I accept that god might be possible. But that's how I view him if he is, which I think might be possible. We're an experiment of his not a "chosen people"

You can be atheist and not be a dirty commie though.

God is a big "the dog ate my homework" joke desu

No, I am. Because question of God is not primum movens for me but that of curiosity. I am not overwhelmed by it. I simply accept that God need not physically exist to exist

I actually thought god was sort of a meme/joke by adults until I was about 8. They would just occasionally mention him as part of phrases like "god forbid" or "for god's sake". It never occurred to me people seriously believed in all that crap until I started reading about history and politics.

Do you believe god?

yeah. I know about the source.
Life is a game.

I do too. God exists. I'm sure of it. It obviously treats humanity with indifference though. I can only hope that it is merciful enough to grant us eternal life after death.

Attached: 1515857401128.png (689x540, 411K)

no it isn't

No, life is life. The key is to stay above the mind games

>I believe in god.

Attached: 1552243692609.jpg (800x450, 45K)

It is though, he says it himself

What god?

how about eternal death after life

>I do too. God exists.
yes
>It obviously treats humanity with indifference though
no
>I can only hope that it is merciful enough to grant us eternal life after death.
That's automatically included in "made in Imago Dei" package

Attached: zerotwo.jpg (720x720, 61K)

No. Fuck that. God has the power to give us life. If it is a moral being it has an obligation to take care of its children. I'm living my life as a good person and I want to see my dead loved ones again.

t. buddhist
okay. maybe next life

Unfortunately not. If humanity is made in the image of God (and I agree it is), then there's the distinct possibility of God being a shitty being, just like there are shitty people. I wish I could be certain of the goodness of God though.

what if i don't want to hangout forever with other people? can i just choose some sort of permanent deal instead? what if god is some of a recyclist like incarnation from buddhism (without the karma part) and you just gotta live another random life without your old memories

If god exists he's a lapsed catholic, not a prottiecuck.

God doesn't believe in you.

>If humanity is made in the image of God (and I agree it is), then there's the distinct possibility of God being a shitty being, just like there are shitty people
No
You are mixing up "Image" and "Likeness" in this case
"Image" denotes the traits that are inherent to mankind in general, such as free will, immortality and so on.
"Likeness" denotes the traits that can be developed, the virtues that makes us Godlike, which is achieved in a neverending process that is Theosis.

And you know all of this for certain, how? Don't try to pass off your theories as fact.

no one cares, virgin.

What I said is part of the apostolic teachings, so these aren't my theories per see and is found in different works of church fathers, be it Isaac of Syria, John of Damascus and so on.
As for certainty, I'll be honest: I believe in this and faith isnt as easy to describe as it sounds. I just find it convenient, be it for general teachings and prophesies in OT in relations of NT and shroud and Turin, 12 Apostles enduring the torments and still believing in it, etc. Also, any kind of certainty needs a foundation. Its kind of like axioms in euclidean geometry, it is just believed in and upon it is rest of the geometry founded.
Judging from my personal experience, I can say that you should start with the axiom phase and simply at least try to believe in it and over the time the questions will be answered. I had such "eurika" moments when I expected them the least.

what do you call yourself if you don't believe in god, but you want to?
