Well, currently I live in Philadelphia for a company that is very poorly managed. It has given me a lot of good connections and experience for my future but it is time for me to break ties with it. I was looking for work in New York, and basically was denied every job I applied for only for the reason that I did not already reside in New York which is common because employers know that it is not simple to just move to New York quickly because of the limited housing market and cost.
For the career I am interested in, it makes the most sense to be able to speak Japanese to some extent. I had looked into universities that offer Japanese courses, but overall it would cost more to pay tuition for any college than it would to pay for the cost of living and tuition of any language school in Japan. Not to mention the fact that you will obviously learn more when you reside in the country that the language is actually spoken. For a full year of class in Japan it costs less than a single semester in America where you would only be taking one Japanese class per semester anyway.
Other than that, I am very interested in Japan in general. The safety and cleanliness is attractive to me. I can not really say for what your city is like because I have never had the chance to visit Mexico, but where I live there is a lot of crime and homelessness and I would live to experience somewhere that is more functional.
On a personal level, I do have friends in America, but not many that are very important to me. Because I live in a city, I have been living with roommates for many years and have been thinking I need a change and that I need to move forward into my adult life. I need an actual challenge and a major change of pace. I have been in a relationship for about 4 and a half years and was dumped by her recently. So I have essentially nothing tying me to America in terms of personal life.

Well, I have been following brands since I have been in middle school. I started by being interested in streetwear brands like A Bathing Ape and Supreme. Over time I have become more interested in brands such as Comme des Garcons, The Soloist, Yohji Yamamoto. One of the companies I spoke to that I almost worked for is called Engineered Garments. I have has an interest for a long time. The way I see it, fashion is an art form that has a tangible market because it relies around purchase. So it is a creative field that is directly tied to business.

Well you definitely have to actually be an enthusiast to work in the field. In my experience working with different companies, even the reps that work for mainstream companies are more hip than the brands they work for because they have to be forward thinking to be able to direct the company. A lot of these companies are very small and rely on cult following and disregard all common sense in business altogether. It would be very complicated for someone who does not follow fashion at all to try to rationalize the decisions of many companies.
For example, the brand I mentioned called Engineered Garments is manufactured in the United States because the designer likes the attributes of American factories and suppliers although the majority of their customers are in Japan. This means the majority of their market pays more than every other region due to the cost of international shipping and import tax. However, in Japan there is a prestige behind products being made in the United States which warrants a higher price tag. So someone who doesn't understand the market, would not be able to rationalize these decisions that on paper are highly illogical.
