I grew up in Albania, it was pretty great because we were upper middle class, but for the average person, it's pretty lackluster. Poverty is rampant and people emigrate alot. I'm planning to move back to Albania or to Turkey after college because with the money I make here, I can live like a king in those two countries. (I have family in both.) Poor eastern europe isn't totally bad : )
