Why can't germans just make a normal Red White and/or Blue flag. Are they retarded?

A quick history on it?

during the wars of liberation of Napoleon there were student volunteer units who wore black uniforms with red accents and golden buttons which then became the colors of German nationalism (which arose out of the Napoleonic time)
the colors were then used as flag of the German confederation and as national flag during the 1848 rebellions against the monarchy
when Prussia united Germany from 1864-1871 the black-white-red flag of the North German confederation was used instead (black-white for Prussia, red for the Hansa cities)
