-Latino, just mean Latin person, comes from the regions most popular name that was coined by a Frenchman who thought he could unite the Latins of the world.

I have literally never seen anyone refer to new worlders as southrons. It's always been used by Northern Euros to mock Southern Euros.

It died out as a term for a while. It came back as a term used in various fantasy books such as Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones. It's used here because most of the people are losers. IRL no one will ever use it seriously
