I currently have 20 000€ on my bank account, what would you do with that money? Would you invest in something? If yes, what kind of investment?

I'm trying to get rich, I'm only 19 and planning to work while spending nothing (I already did that for 1 year now, I live with my parents)

This is gonna sound dumb but to foreigners have index funds? I've only heard of index funds tied to american indexes. I suppose you could buy american stocks but I don't know if stock brokers sell so openly to foreigners.

If so, put 10k into an index fund. The average return is dependent on gdp growth and at least in america averages out to 7% return yearly.

You're a dumbass. Spend and travel the world, have experiences while you can. Money won't buy you that when you're older.

I thought the same thing tbf. I thought there might be legal issues that would make trading in US stocks from the UK more difficult.

Outperforming the market is such a difficult task it's best not to bother with it if you don't know for 95% sure that you will get a higher return than the market.
Europe etf's now are pretty heavily discounted with a PE ratio lower than 10 :^)

You can either spot them or you can't. If you can't spot them yet, keep your money in safer investments such as index funds or blue chip stocks. Immerse yourself in financial news, current affairs, politics and learn about the modern economy, how it's performing, why it's performing how it is. Study specific industries and learn the challenges they face. Once you've got a broad enough knowledge you'll start to recognise when someone is on to a good idea.

if you start investing early on and consistently add money every month you'll be able to retire early

Ethan Fisher

Yeah with 20k €, maybe he'll retire at age 45, after having lived like a dog for 25 years, instead of 62. Still better to travel the world while young.

Colton Gomez
Colton Gomez

you don't need to live like a dog, you just need to think about your finances a bit and not waste it on stupid shit. I agree spending it on things like travel is worth it if you really want it, but I have no real desire for anything, and the few vacations I had yet were more stress than anything for me. So it's pointless to spend it just for the sake of it.

Jordan Thomas
Jordan Thomas

You can travel pretty well on a budget too. No need to spend 20k or even 10k already. 1k or 2k is more than enough to travel for at least three weeks almost anywhere in Asia and Eastern Europe starting from Germany. Investing and saving is important and if you don't start early you might never start or learn discipline to control frivolous spending.

That's true, I don't think he should spend the entire 20k. But let's not kid ourselves into thinking he'll live comfortably by investing 20k, that's just a small headstart.

I would spend 6000 € on a first class train ticket on the trans Siberian railway, which goes from Moscow to Vladivostok. I'd spend maybe 2000 € on good scotch, vodka, and wine. Maybe 1000€ i on high quality caviar which would go well with your blin and sour cream, maybe 1000 € at the casino for the dopamine rush, 100 € on a cigar. I'd also buy a dog and a book shelf for your 100 copies of the master and margarita
