We call it Hviterussland in Sami too, it isn't important enough to get it's own name. Russia is called Ruošša in northern Sami, if you was wondering

>The official foundation year is 1127. At this year Grodno was mentioned in the Primary Chronicle as Goroden' and located at a crossing of numerous trading routes, this Slavic settlement, possibly originating as far as the late 10th century, became the capital of a poorly attested but separate principality, ruled by Yaroslav the Wise's grandson and his descendants.
Slavs settlers on Baltic Land.
Yes, but I grew up in the Oslo region (like most of us) not in the north. My parents taught me the language, but I almost never use it.
You funny little man.
Weißrussland (White Russia)
Belarus is used rarely

Vitryssland.
Ruotsi/Rootsi(Finnish/Estonian for Sweden) Rus, Ruthenia and Russia have the same etymology. Comes from the coastal area of Uppland in Sweden where I come from, called Roslagen, or 'Roden' as it was called before, which comes from the word roðer(row). The boats that the Varangians(WE) used to navigate the rivers of the east were rowboats. Rörik, my ancestor :)
No it doesn't.
Stop being retarded.

Valkovenäjä, which just means white Russia. Our word for Russia "Venäjä" is pretty weird in itself though.
He is right. Swedes cucked us.
>Any language which calls it "Russia" instead of "Rus" is bluepilled as fuck.
So you mentioned Russia isn't Rus' ?
From Belrusian wiki:
Belarusian language named: "Бeлa[pycкaя] мoвa".
Russian language named: "[Pycкaя] мoвa".
[Pycкaя] = [Pycь] = Rus'
By that logic Belarusians bluepilled as fuck.
CRINGE POLE.
assuming his etymology is correct, it could be the same origin, Venäjä coming from "vene"
Rurik was Karelian, keep kidding yourselves.
In estonian language Russia is Venemaa.
>somebody finally realizes how stupid these words sound
Russians are subhumans that Swedecucks had to civilize so they could start their own kingdom.

>By that logic Belarusians bluepilled as fuck.
No, dear sir. The Polish user is correct. The word "ruski" must mot belong exclusively to Russia or Russians. It must belong to Belarusians and Ukrainians as well.
Unfortunately it became customary to apply “ruski” to Russians because of Soviet “political correctness” (for the lack of a better word). Picture related.
If Rus' and Russia are same shit then where i was wrong?
>Rus' and Russia are same shit
But they aren't
>If Rus' and Russia are same shit then where i was wrong?
Poles get it completelly correct.
They have both Ruś and Rosja because they know these are two different words. And the adjectives are ruski and rosyjski.
That's how it must be. I think the most neutral word for Russians is Velikorussy and velikorusskiy. It offends nobody. "The official languages of Belarus are the Belarusian language and the Velikorussian language". I'd be okay with this term.
Rus = Russia, Ukraine, Belarus
Russia = Russia
>two different words
And where did this word come from and why they are that "different"? In those times.
It clearly says Belarus, not Belaruth
Are you blind or something
Weißrussland
White Rus land
>The word "Rosia" originated in Byzantium and was used there as the Greek designation of Rus, the country and the Kyiv Metropolitanate created in its borders. For the first time the word "Ῥωσία" was used in the 10th century by the Byzantine emperor Constantine Porphyrogenitus. Through the Greek Greek written language and official documents, the Greek word "Ῥωσία" entered the Russian language. The first known mention of the word "Rosia" in the Cyrillic entry is dated April 24, 1387. From the end of the XV century, the name of Rosia was used in secular literature and documents of the Russian state, gradually replacing the former name of Rus. Official status it acquired after the wedding of Ivan IV to the kingdom in 1547, when the country began to be called the Russian kingdom. Modern spelling of the word - with two letters "C" - appeared from the middle of the XVII century and was finally fixed under Peter I.
Rus originates from Ruotsi (Vikings).
Rossia originates from Rus by Hellenization of the word.
Belarus originates from White Rus (lands of Smolensk and Polotsk).
>Belarus originates from White Rus (lands of Smolensk and Polotsk).
Wrong again.
B...but euromaidan.tv says that Rus is actually Ukraine and that Muscovites stole Ukrainian history
Rus -> Rusaine -> U[k]saine -> Ukraine
By the way, can you explain why Belarusians celebrate the day when the Germans occupied them? It's funny that your story began to "differ" just after such events.
>Wrong again.
Not wrong. The word White Ruthenians originates in Latin Hungarian literature to designate loyal Ruthenians.
Later it travelled to the West, and throgh Germany came to Poland. But different geographers did not clearly where White Rus is located, that's why different people applied the word to differents parts of Eastern Europe.
But in the end in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth it acquired the meaning "the land somewhere around Polotsk, Vitebsk and Smolensk". Later the meaning was extended to embrace all the people who spoke the same dialect, they became to be known as Belarusians.
t. guy who reads historical works from time to time.
yeah, and Ruś is Ruthenia, not Russia
Are you blind or something
>By the way, can you explain why Belarusians celebrate the day when the Germans occupied them?
??? Does not compute.
>did not clearly where White Rus is located, that's why different people applied the word to differents parts
>"the land somewhere around Polotsk, Vitebsk and Smolensk"
So it is not because these lands were closer to them?
Hmmm strange....

I mean your National Day.
If you start calling yourself Black Russians or Black Ruthenians or Black Rus' I will not mind.
Where did you go, belarusian boy?
I need my answer.
Black Ruthenia is a term made up by medieval geographers.
White Rusland*
We will not accept ANY form of anglo influence in our language! Schild en vriendt!
It's called white Russia(WeissRussland) in German. Also 1/8 Belarusian btw
Well, not exactly medieval. I guess it happened even later.
>By the way, can you explain why Belarusians celebrate the day when the Germans occupied them?
It's a day when a proto-parliament of Belarus declared the independece of Belarus. It has nothing to do with Germans whatsoever. Since them it became a symbolic data. An important step towards independence, so to say.
Later the political opposition adjusted it to its needs, and I stopped liking it.

Ruthenia/Rus =/= Russia just like Ruś =/= Rosja
Rus and Ruthenia are names for the overall of East Slavic lands, while Russia is a term that only includes Great Rus
