Going to Southern France soon, GF wants to spend more time in Nice/Monte Carlo but I want to spend the majority of the time in Marseille. Can I get a rundown on what Marseille is really like without all the "its not France" shit?
I saw the Anthony Bourdain episode on Marseille, looks great, reminds me of Naples (which I loved).
*blocks your way*
>Fucking grenoble
Lmao why
The only city you're missing is Marseille and then you'd have visited france's worst
massalia is greek clay
Yeah France sucks. When it comes to travelling Europe, Austria is the furthest west you want to go, with the exception of Switzerland, the nordic countries, and Spain if you speak Spanish. Western Europe is just absolutely filled with arrogant f*rsties and their refugees they let in so that they have another reason to look down on everyone else. Western European arrogance can only be matched by Chinese bugmen and American fratboys. Its truly interesting how a long and powerful history can lead to an inherent cultural arrogance that you wont notice until you bring them to certain topics. (Ignore my flag, I'm not from here.) Even the Germans, for all their white guilt ×1000 are still incredibly arrogant when it comes to the German ways of doing things. I had to deal with the German Branch of my employer's after their accounting department was deliberately making our jobs harder by ignoring our system for internal accounting and instead following the German standard for public accounting. We could not get them to do what they wanted and they were extremely passive aggressive and refused to do it the way we wanted as they believed that IFRS was superior to our system. I ended up being put on a flight over there so that I could I read them the riot act and make it clear that they needed to do things our way or we would start the process of firing people. And they still argued with me for days about it because they felt that they knew better than all of working in the US when they were in an underperforming branch, even compared to our debauched Brazilian branch that was reenacting a mix of Fear and Loathing and the Wolf of Wall Street and breaking the law left and right in regards to corruption. What I've realized is you cant reason with an educated European whose made his mind up about something, because even if on a surface level they dont realise or even hate the idea of arrogance, they all truly believe that their methods are superior to that of all foreigners.
It's the worst city you can imagine, even Algiers is better. Not meming.
Maybe if you stick to the touristic parts you'll find it okay. Only good thing is the Mucem museum, very nice.
My humble advice is to go to Bandol, Sanary, Hyères or Aix en Provence instead, if you can avoid going there between June and August, temperatures are insane and there are way too many tourists.
