I always wondered how does stuff like political science or philosophy get graded?
in say maths you're either right or wrong but this is just peoples opinions

That's why such subjects are memes and become total echo chambers. People just cite papers they agree with and keep others from getting attention. This happens to all subjects with where you're dealing primarily with ideas that can't be falsified.

it's based on building a coherent argument that brings together your knowledge of existing literature on an issue, for a 1st degree mark there has to be some innovation or something reasonably unique about your essay. You don't get marked down for the wrong opinions, just shit arguments that make no sense

Dunno about philosophy but for poli sci you answer questions on exams about the systems of government, the branches of govt, what goes on and how they operate, what certain terms mean concerning different roles that political underlings take etc
You also write essays about the impact of certain laws and political machines
My professor’s focus was the impact of foreign/domestic lobbying, so we talked about how lobbying groups in states like New York and California will dump money into superpacs that funnel money into tv/radio/internet ads and other subversive methods of political advancement in small states like Wyoming and will fuck up the balance of power and the culture through these out of state lobbying groups

interesting stuff, but unless you plan on becoming a lawyer, teaching, or becoming a politician, it’s a worthless degree

Philosophy is actually very easy to grade. Much of it is essentially logic and the rest is crystallized knowledge.

In philosophy we were graded based on how logic our demonstration was. We were also graded on the references we used, our general knowledge of philosophy's history

Probably yes, actually. Most STEM grads study physical or life sciences, which don't make much money unless you do one of the three obvious graduate programs (nursing, physician assistant, physician). "STEM" is more like TEM. Engineering and computer science majors make bank, mathematics/statistics/applied mathematics/actuarial science/etc. majors do very well (though only comparable to e.g. economics or finance), and the others are out of luck.
