The issue is that Russia acts like Nazi Germany, they are imperialistic with the excuse they want to protect Russian minorities in nearby countries. They used this exact casus belli for Crimea.

It isn’t refutable, you have to be clutching at straws. Even Kissinger mister realpolitik believes that the US policy towards Russia has been way too belligerent for little gains.

In reality the US isn't harsh enough on Russia. We shouldn't have allowed their continued existence after the Cold War
