I'm in college and got a new job cleaning restaurant vents, my job requires me to climb onto rooftops, some have their own ladders attached to the building and some require us climbing up on a company ladder, I get paid roughly $11 an hour, is this worth it for the danger or am i getting suckered?
I'm in college and got a new job cleaning restaurant vents, my job requires me to climb onto rooftops...
also they didnt say anything about insurance, im sure they have some company policy though
No, fuck that, you could get permanently injured for life, not worth minimum wage. I had a shit job and the boss told me a new duty of mine was to get on the roof 3 times a week and make sure the drains weren't getting plugged. I told him I don't get paid enough to risk bodily harm and I would do it for a raise. He got fucking pissed, wrote me up then got all the managers together and they told me to get on the roof. I said no again and they sent me home. Next day I come in and they hired a drain service to come and check it bi weekly lol. Four managers and all of them were too pussy to get on the roof themselves. Never do something dangerous at a job unless you get paid well enough.
Agreed. I waited tables for a bit in college and made much more than $11/hr. Look around OP, you should at least be able to find something that’s safe and $13/hr.
$11 / hour to scrape carcinogens out of vents. oh I don't know, how many larps are in a flarp? college debt... $11/hour job... inability to look at glassdoor.com to figure out if you are getting fucked.
If your larp employer is a big multi-million dollar company, your best bet is to break the ladder and then use the broken ladder to fall off the roof seriously injuring yourself - maybe it will kill you - sounds like a win win situation from where you're sitting.
WHOA YOURE SO BASED, UPBOATED, LIKED AND SUBBED, ALSO FOLLOWED ON TWITTER, WOW HERE'S ANOTHER UPBOAT, BASED *TIPS FEDORA*
I fix toys for 12.77
should i call the guy an ask to get paid more or should i just say fuck it and quit on the spot? Its a small company, seems like just me and 2 other guys, the owner and possibly his close friend, i had a feeling i was getting suckered but i actually had fun doing the job
Depends on where you live OP. If youre in Cali you should be getting paid more than 11 for that. For what it's worth climbing up and down ladders shouldnt be THAT dangerous.
t. electrician
im in North Carolina
Isnt 11 an hour like triple the minimum wage there?
Well, it depends. Have anyone DIED recently climbing on those rooftops?
lol yea, its a shitty state, im originally from NY
nope just a lot of mothers finding their drowning kids
not bad then.
Im originally a chef, but i hated it so much i found this job, most other jobs look at my resume and say why doesnt he get a job cooking
Servers are some of the biggest faggots on the planet, all of them literally say, "OMG, LIKE EVERYONE LIKE SHOULD BE LIKE A SERVER LIKE, AT LEAST LIKE ONCE IN THEIR LIFES LIKE SUPER CEREAL". This triggers me to no end.
Learn how to clean vents and then start your own vent cleaning compnay, You're doing all the fucking work anyway. Once you get some accounts you can find some other sucker to climb up on the roof for $10 per hour.
I used to do that for $20/hr always changed belts and kekd at the poor sap who had to clean those
so should i call the guy and say $11 is not worth the risk, or should i just say fuck it and quit?
Genuine business advice OP
Pick one of these and do it tomorrow
Risk of what? You zoomers are such pussies. I was a roofer in college making $10 an hour.
I make $16 per hour with full health.
im not even a zoomer dumbass, just because you feel it necessary to potentially throw youre life away for a measly 10 bucks doesnt mean the rest of us are as idiotic as you
i just quit this job, fuck that im in school why ruin everything i worked so hard to just piss it away by potentially tripping once
i didnt even get that, the guy didnt speak of any benefits im sure its an OSHA hellhole
In 2018, anything under $15/hr is a complete waste of time.
Most construction work is going to start at that pay rate. And if you just keep showing up and showing that you are a worker, you'll be up to $25 an hour in no time.
I mean cleaning vents is pretty much a minimum wage job yeah. I don't know where you live or anything but you're probably not getting suckered you're just doing bullshit labor for probably a small company that can't afford much in the way of payroll. I work for a guy like that, but it's a job I actually enjoy doing.
i mean thats the thing i can find an $11 job cooking, which i absolutely hate with a passion right now, im currently in north carolina, shit state but i should be able to find better
You could work in a department store for $11 an hour. Not worth it.
Or be a bank teller
i agree, i quit that job tonight even though i had fun on the job and dont have a fear of heights, its not worth it, its a dangerous job and its at overnight hours with traveling to different cities, how is that worth it at all for $11 it feels like im being suckered, just because i had a little fun
Yeah those things are fucking super disgusting I unironcially rather flip burgers
ive been a chef since i was 16, i hated it now that im in my later years, at least i can say cooking wont potentially kill you, the worst you get are burns
>line cook (at best) pretends he's a chef
how quaint
I was unironically making $11/hr when I was 15 years old back in 2006
Yeah a ton are mounted on the very point of a steep roof too
F
you know me so well
well i know you're someone who asks an anime forum about $11/hour job advice. that kinda tips me off.
of course, not since i was 16 but i say that to get the point across
anime forum? what? i didnt know anime forums have business and advice boards
>the worst you get are burns
>he never had the experience of working with a deep fryer burn victim
i made it to line cook from prep and holy fuck did i hate it
This OP
>GDP growth 4.1%
>unemployment 2.8%(lowest in recorded human history)
>300,000 jobs created every month
>university grads making 80-100k starting + stock options
>average journeyman tradesman making $65/hr and so much demand they have to turn down work
>companies competing for workers raising wages everywhere
>even unskilled labourers are making $25/hr now
There is no reason to be making under $25/hr in America in the year 2018, and with a year or two of experience there is no reason to be making under $25/hr in America in the year 2018
>getting business and/or general life advice from anime fans
LMAO
i guess anime fans arent people with real life problems and jobs, so the fuck are you doing here then, just shitposting your miserable life away
mostly just shitposting while i watch some skateboarding documentary on netflix
found the toddler fag
says the guy making $11/hr ;)
im in school not everybody has a dad that can give them a job, and at least my balls dropped, and thats what i make currently because i needed a flexible job for school, youre pretty dense huh
What kind of rooftop was it? If it's sloped, then I understand the danger, but if it's flat like many rooftops in the city, it's no more dangerous than driving or walking across a busy street.
this, can't believe these fucking scumbags who try and intimidate people into doing dangerous things like this
>youre pretty dense huh
I'm just joking around. Relax, you're definitely going to make it.
I quit for $29 no job is worth your life think long term
if you dont get it
you wont make it
not every job has life risk
avoid at all cost
otherwise you look like them
i know man, im just on edge for having wasted my time, not only that but also almost being used for a shitty job
>unemployment 2.8%(lowest in recorded human history)
>being naive enough to actually believe this
it varies, some were sloped some were flat, some of the vents were on 6 foot stands that required us to carry the ladder up to the roof and then stand at the very top to get into the vent
