I’m moving to Chicago for work. What am I in for?

the homeless are not aggressive at all though, the people are friendly in general too, atleast compared to new york city, cleveland and denver. the weather is pretty bad that is true, it works in extremes here.

basically youre going to love it, very cheap for a major city, great food, night life and music scene is wonderful, always some festival or event going on, block parties, top tier museums, very nice aesthetic once youre on the street and like i said up there the people here are good folk. and dont worry about the crime meme, unless youre looking for trouble you wont have to deal with it. ive lived in the westside my whole life in a majority black neighborhood as a white guy and nothing bad has ever happened. i even go to a super ghetto area and buy heroin literally everyday for the past 14 years and have only experienced kindness. chicago does have one of the biggest open air drug markets in the country, but people like me are rare and youd never tell from meeting me that anything was odd anyway, meth doesnt exist here so junkies dont stick out. anyway, the only shitty things about chicago is the gang violence but it's only in specific certain areas that you probably wont ever wander into and youll know right away if you are getting close to one. the gangbangers live by the sword and die by the sword and dont bother with the normal people, but their shit aim is a problem. enjoy the city fren, chicago has SOUL

im really unsure of the "clubbing drinking getting girls" scene, i see them out in certain areas where it is definitely "nightlife" but i cant personally reccommed anything. but im a big music fan and chicago has a good huge handful of small venues that bands from all over the world come to often, keep your eye on early warnings/chicago reader, lets you know everything coming to town ahead of time. not just music either, gives heads up of good art exhibits and stuff.

Detroit by so many orders of magnitude it isn't even funny. Chicago has big problems and some nasty neighborhoods but Detroit is the shame of the nation.
