It's par for the course in the U.S. Schools will do these to show they're good and that you should pick them instead of their rival. If you're in high school pretty much every college in the country will let you take a day of classes and spend the evening/overnight with a student.

When I come to think of it, the US education system is fucking retarded. "Hey kid listen, sorry you didn't do well in math when you were 14. Fuck off and die now. You're not getting in engineering." So glad Brazil only has uni entrance exams and that's that. They don't give a shit about highschool record.

that isnt how the US works at all kek, from what ive heard some euro uni systems are more like that where people commit on their field so early. At top unis yeah usually you have to pick a major, but otherwise you can come in witgout picking a major and just take electives, and prereqs while figuring out what you want to focus on. They have remedial math courses for those that did shitty in high school to work on that too. Sure, someone that didnt focus too much in high school math might have to take an extra semester or two in college to catch up, but they arent fucked completely.

Not always. Engineering schools like RPI literally don't offer pre-calculus at all. If you didn't take it during high school you're fucked. If they don't immediately throw your application in the garbage they'll MAYBE let you in if you take it during the summer.

I was speaking more on my experience with public unis and not based on private unis or ones focused mostly in engineering and sciences. With ABET a public uni will be fine and good enough to get a job with the degree. The problem with failing high school math is that youd probably be doing shitty in other subjects, and have a lower GPA and maybe SAT/ACT scores as well, which hurt more for the public uni route. As long as someone has enough math to graduate from high school, i think it would be possible to claw back into an engineering degree, especially if you go to community college first and ace all the math courses there
