Actually during the Ottoman occupation the Bulgarian church forbid marriages between Christians and Muslims. This continued long after the independence even into the communism days, when Muslims were forced to change their names and adopt Bulgarian names or leave the country. Today some churches probably wouldn't want to marry Christian with Muslims, but most probably will. Over the years the country has become too liberal in terms of religion. Most people don't give a shit about it anymore, even Muslims here aren't really religious like the Turks in Turkey. Bulgaria is probably the only country in the entire region where people are sexually open. Only in BG can a gay gypsy become a famous and cherished singer.
