Gasoline depends on where you are, different states have different taxes and how far the gas travels from the refinery is also a factor. I've also driven in Europe, gas in Germany was insane.

i went to LA the other month and it really is goblino land, everyone is short and some shade of brown
I didnt go to the downtown area so didnt see too many homeless, but the restaurants i did go to all had shitty food despite good reviews

Never been there, im sure the tourist traps are dirty and filled with mexican street hustlers, like literally anywhere else on earth. Its just super cringe and predictable when some early 20’s euro who went on a trip to the “United States” (just LA) makes a post listing everything negative they saw or imagined.

As many others have already said, California is "special". I went there in 2015 and I liked it, but actually living there is something else and I can understand why pretty much the rest of the US hate them.

I've been to the US numerous times. Florida, Hawaii, California/Vegas, New York/DC/Boston. I've also encountered quite a few homeless people, but it's not that bad. All Americans are apparently very friendly and outgoing (so I get why we Germans seem like autists to them), but I think it's more of a facade (not that you're all assholes, but it's like telling a new neighbor "Come visit me anytime" and when he comes you're surprised because it wasn't meant that way. It's hard to explain). For some reason, most products do indeed cost less in Germany/Austria and I've also been wondering why they don't include the tax in their prices. I'm aware that the places I've been to are the hipster commie places. All in all, America is obviously a nice country.

LA is a shithole and I live in NYC. Sure there are worst cities but it's honestly one of the worst in California. It has an insane urban sprawl and a car/public transport problem. Plus homeless, illegals and Hollywood douchebags. In short if you're set on California, maybe do a day sightseeing their and then go somewhere else.

Miami, Orlando, Tampa, Key Largo and Key West. I really liked Key West. Key Largo sucked. I was impressed by how diverse the landscape was, Everglades on one side and cool beaches on the other. The weather was fantastic so we could also enjoy Miami. I'm not good at remembering things and this was in 2011, so I can't really tell you everything, but I liked it. Florida is way more than most people apparently think it is and I didn't even see the North.

I live in BK and it's expensive and with high sales tax. We especially get fucked on high prices if imported cheeses and meats from Europe and the Hipster prices dont help, to quote my Bavarian friend about a hipster cheese and butcher shop, "I know how much those European cheeses cost, I'm not going to pay stupid hipster prices." Thankfully, if you know where look we have affordable stuff.

Yeah, I also think the midwest is better than most people outside of the US would guess. It's probably not that attractive for most tourists (everyone wants to go to NYC and LA), but living there sounds actually comfy. It's a very large area though, so I reckon you could get the wrong impression by just going to a certain place.
