American education
murrica this
murrica that
there are some arguments to be made against standardised testing but literally what is the point of this
to help white people get into colleges
To help blacks and Hispanics go to prison
It's just College Board desperatly trying to stay relevant and keep the gravy train going as most schools are making test scores optional. (College Board is the org that runs the SAT, they make over a billion dollars a year and the CEO makes nearly a million)
Poor whites (and blacks) are getting fucked by affirmative action so I guess this is their way of changing it up.
OK so lets say a kid gets a score of 100%, even though he is poor, been raped, been abused, been discriminated by teachers and peers all his life.
Then another kid gets 100% but he had a loving family, never raped, never beaten, favored by his teachers and his peers, well off enough to afford tutors etc.
Which one shows more merit?
White people are the ones who face the most adversity now?
nice extreme case that would never happen in reality
anyway my answer either way would be
>who cares
>nice extreme case that would never happen in reality
Its an extreme case for illustrative purposes
>who cares
College admissions often care
Every white person in the World could give his college admission to a black person and it still would not be sufficient reparations for slavery and racism
that's literally true
This would benefit "whites' too though.
>being a kissless, hugless virgin doesn't count as hardship
No wonder you kids are shooting up schools at a breakneck rate.
well I guess they'd look at these perfect scores and offer them a place
are you in favour of this then?
my friend almost didnt graduate hs, she got raped in her senior year and fell into a bad depression and no one gave a fuck. hardship score is a good idea, but idk how they will implement it or stop kids from abusing the system. hmmm
i had a fucked up life, i saw my best friend get shot in the head when i was 15, got gangraped when i was 12, forced to use hard drugs when i was 10, been assaulted with deadly weapons a few times, etc.. but luckily i dropped out of school in 2nd grade and never went back so i didnt have to deal with having shit grades and teachers who didnt give a fuck.
I don't see why not. "Adversity score" is going to be a bit of a tiebreaker at most, or just a little bump up. Colleges can use it or disregard it as they please.
I say this as someone who has faced roughly 0 adversity.
>White people are the ones who face the most adversity now?
yeah they're losing out to asian students, which is why they are putting more emphasis on 'adversity' and extra-curriculars
SAT is a dumb meme test. Most of the stuff on there is completely alien.
this p much
how are they going to systematise it?
you'll get every chump telling their life story about how their friend died 7 years ago and made them really sad or maybe their dog got run over once and it made it really hard to study for finals that year so you got held back a grade etc
the whole point of the SAT is to put that aside and measure what actually matters to the universities: intellectual merit
if there is a problem with that, address it directly. but more AA shit? hmm
This. It's just AA for whites who can't afford Adderall.
In the progressive mind everyone regardless of race, sex, etc. is born with the same qualities, and in a world where some groups hadn't historically dominated others all groups would be equally represented in every field and bracket. This is ofcourse anti-scientific bullshit, but you're supposed to go along and cuck yourself until their fantasy comes true.
I don't know why you are telling me about your hardships but I am sorry to hear about them. A kid who went through what you went through but stuck through with it til graduation would show incredible tenacity and might be worth a 2nd look by colleges.
Asian kids do plenty of extracurricular and face plenty of adversity too.
I'm whitoid, went to college in 2005, they made us fill out how many extracurriculars we had (I had zero), and write an essay on our adverse experiences (I had to bs my way through it), and I still got into my top choice because I had good grades and test scores (University of Michigan).
Since when do white people face more adversity? I'm white and I got a 0 on ACE. If anything, Asian parents are stereotyped as being more abusive towards their kids (emotionally speaking) than white parents.
They already have adversity tests used in psych assessments, like ACE. Doesn't have to be in essay format.
This.
They deserve at least 200 base points for surviving an American school long enough to get to the SATs
