Not true. 55 years ago is when the federal government began forcing whites at the private level to serve and accommodate blacks in all states under all circumstances. Basic rights as citizens they've had for 150 years now. Sure, in the southern states Jim Crow laws partially undermined those rights through the first half of the 20th Century. But they still had and exercised their rights as citizens even then. Believe it or not, those rights were generally recognized even by the reactionary state governments.
