They do have a large jaoanese community but it's been there for generations so they wouldn't count.

Many of those states have so little immigration that it only takes a few people to be the dominant immigrant group.
For example in Maine there are 10,000 Somalis located exclusively in the cities of Portland and Lewiston. This is only 0.75% of the state's population but that's enough to make them the largest immigrant group.
