>A loss leader (also leader)[1] is a pricing strategy where a product is sold at a price below its market cost[2] to stimulate other sales of more profitable goods or services. With this sales promotion/marketing strategy, a "leader" is used as a related term and can mean any popular article, i.e., sold at a normal price.[3]
Milk is the most famous loss leader. Also, there might be an illegal immigrant or two on dairy farms.
We have a 33% price difference on a 2% supply and demand deficit

cows pumped full of hormoes.
milk and eggs are shit in America
the reason for keeping them indoors is supposed to protect them from contracting avian deceases from other birds.
the important thing is to keep the enclosure clean, otherwise they're quite fine and happy (feeling safe) raised indoors
Basically the dairy industry isn't a free market because no one buys milk outside of supermarkets and thus they have a disproportionate control over prices.
>getting shot being a realistic event that could happen at literally any moment
It's not though. Unless you're a minority gangbanger in an urban area, your chances of getting shot here are completely insignificant.
>tfw live next to a small farm

It must be unhealthy and cheaply made like all their other food
