From my experience traveling in California the central coast is where California gets its laid back surfer image from. The bay area and Los Angeles are responsible for every bad thing said about the state. Its very nice, I would like to buy a house by the coast someday. If it would split into its own state I believe it would unarguably be the best state.

It is. But Norcal Conservatives tend to be conservative in the sense that they hate big government, want less regulations, hate mass media and like guns. Not the stereotypical kind of social conservative oft associated with xenophobes, hyper religious types, anti-gay seen in a lot of other places. California conservatives tend to still be pretty centrist regarding social issues are are still kind of slanted towards environmentalism. Coast is ass expensive and doesn't have a lot of jobs unless you work on vineyards. But I def agree that SF and LA are concrete shitholes (I live near Ventura). Personally I'd go live in Bishop or Lone Pine, or maybe Arcata, if I was retired and didn't need money. Unfortunately I'm young and need to be near the jobs or else I would right now...
Oregon and Washington are nice too but it rains too much in WA and they just don't have as much, IMO.
Also people tend to forget we actually have a lot of rural areas in CA, especially the central valley, where basically 99% of the nation's cash crops are grown (e.g. almonds), since our climate is rather forgiving.
