The language was Swedish and so were the names. Two groups had Finnish names: the farmers and the Fennomans (people who changed their names). The Fennomans were kind of radicals and you wouldn't count on them to start up business dynasties or anything. The existing Swedish-named dynasties had no reason to change from their powerful, brand-like names.
To this day the money families have Swedish names.
Finnish speakers having Swedish names is not rare at all even today – especially in western Finland (which is where I’m from).
For example, my mother, whose family was very poor and very Finnish, had a Swedish name.
Also, every president elected in Finnish history spoke Finnish as their first language, but look at the early presidents and you’ll see most of them had Swedish names (Svinhufvud, Relander...), and the ones that don’t (Kallio, Paasikivi...) often had changed their surnames to Finnish.
And before you even mention Mannerheim, he was never elected, he he was a terrible president, and he never held any true power. His presidency was a diplomatic move which allowed Finland to broker peace with the Soviet Union.
