So-called "east"-germans (actually middle-germans) have gone through hardships after the war for a longer period of time, so now they tend to be less decadent and a lot more honest.
However, in generall you could say that every federal state in germany is quite different from the other, there are huge differences in the way people interact with each. Basically the north being autistic and cold and the south being welcoming is not a meme. Except if you are from the western/eastern south and go to the eastern/western south, then you are most likely not welcome.

It's poor. There's lots of Nazis and communists there. Anti-American and pro-Russia/China sentiment is pretty strong. Conversely nationalism and anti-immigration sentiment is also much stronger in the East. They're also big on FKK.
