What I referred to specifically was one of the elements in the book where the main narrator/protagonist, who is an unnamed black man, is hyper-sexualized by various white characters. In one scene, for instance, he is helping a drunk white woman get home, and she asks him to rape him, because she has been conditioned to believe the black man is an unrelenting, powerful, rapist savage. He just feels sad for her and just helps her go to sleep. I'm simplifying it but it's a deeper commentary on how blacks were viewed as hypersexual savages, and this book is from the 1950s, and you still see it today with Black-on-white porn that emphasizes the "black man defiling the pure young white woman" and how Jow Forums and Jow Forums obsess about blacks wanting to fuck whites. It's all a grimmer part of racist white culture

The "invisible" in Ralph Ellison's book is about how the character is largely unseen and poorly understood, and how the forces of society and people around him operate through him, as if he was invisible and unseen as a person. That's a pretty shitty explanation but I read the book 7 years ago so I have to read it again
