Here are some traditional houses found in the Himalayan states of India, they look quite run down now because people are abandoning the villages to go work in the cities.

Chalet is pretty cozy, especially in winter, I got fond childhood memories sitting on a stovebench like that, a cat on my lap, granny tells me stories about mountain ghosts and and gramps and my parents play cards at the table.

These ones in particular were built centuries ago in order to resist earthquakes.

Sissy

I think you mean Japanese traditional house like the one in your picture. It's a common mistake friend since the countries are very similar.

i got brain cancer reading your post

Likely yes. but old farm houses around here only had wood firing, the hearth in the kitchen is actually the backside of the stove bench in the living room, and those are the only rooms you can heat in winter. The stove bench itself is the warmest place in the house, and usually occupied by rheumatic grannies, children and cats who see the stove bench as their natural habitat and treat people as furniture and cushion.
Here is a pic of a modern oven, imagine a wall between kitchen and living room.
