Own a tear down in San Jose(still worth a bunch). Wanted to build a 4-plex in its place. Spent over a year and a half just getting zoning approval. In that time they passed yet another regulation requiring all new construction to give 70k to a low income housing fund. 70k if you were just making a 4-Plex like me, or if you were making a 200 unit townhouse complex. Finally just said fuck it. Letting the teardown stay up, just blighting the neighborhood, and collecting only 2k rent instead of the 8800 I would be making after construction finished

Plywood houses are not built to last. Even the homes built here 100 years ago are falling apart. Meanwhile in Europe you have people living out of the same house for 400 years.

our floors arent OSB, they are 2x6 solid wood, laid diagonally to ensure the foundation NEVER goes out of square, foundation under the home is built on what seems to be about 5 tons of blue clay. it's a fucking beautiful home and only cost $90k for 3 bed 2 bath & garage

Here in hueland even the poor strive to build with bricks. Everyone use masonry and apart from offices no one uses dry wall. Masonry walls are costly but only the very poor make shanty wood houses. Even apartments have masonry walls here, or even concrete.

The sad thing is that they most likely pay full price for it aswell. As they try to sell it in 10-15 years it will have hidden mold issues and moisture in the isolation
100% of American homes over 2 years old have mold problems. I know cause I have personally tested over 50 homes across America.
