Usually they return, it's somewhat of a rite of passage for kiwis to live and work abroad for a time, perhaps because we are at the ass end of the world away from main centers and want to experience them, most of us grew up in the country. Perhaps because we are all descended from the adventurous people who found their way here to the last place settled by humans. Australia is an easy option because no visa is needed to live and work there just a 200 dollar plane ticket, UK is also popular because many have seen it as our homeland.

Yes they are, when they are investing money they borrowed at extremely low rates in china or made in the industrialization off the back of some western company who wanted a cheap factory into housing here, with no intention to live in the housing. Chinese with money don't want their money in china they would much rather it in a safer place and our politicians are allowing it because many of them are boomers who have their entire life work invested in housing and now have seen their property value rise by a million dollars. Despite this kind of corruption it also disguises other slumps in the economy, but you can't have an economy based on buying and selling houses to each other and on the global market, that's just asking for a devastating crash.

People don't just spring from the ground, at some point I'm sure the first men walked into Britain as well, maybe found some neanderthal cavemen there, and colonized them into nothing but DNA. I think languages and cultures are something to be protected so long as it continues to add value and isn't some impossible chore.

NZ is strange in that it was so long before people ever came here, wouldn't it be amazing to be the first to turn up here and see the whole place covered in ancient forest thousands of years old, with 12 foot high dinosaur birds. That was happening in the 1500s and just a few hundred years later it was mapped and recorded and protected.
