To signal a soft c sound in a position where usually you find a hard c
Jacob Baker
It's not really that common. I've never heard it, though I've read it in older books. It comes from "sacré Dieu" which means "Holy God" or "good Lord," but since that's blasphemous to say it was replaced with "sacré bleu" because it rhymes. Sort of like how "porco dio" can be replaced with the euphemistic "porco zio" in Italian. I think the reason most English speakers know about the phrase is because it was used in Agatha Christie's famous detective novels about a Belgian detective named Hercule Poirot.

Sometimes when I'm bored at work but want to seem busy I'll start playing typeracer and work on my touch typing. I'll type as loud as I can, but ideally I'll bring in a blue-switch mechanical keyboard one day. I switched from QWERTY to Dvorak and though I started at an insufferably slow speed I am now, thanks to much practice (6 months), able to type at 80WPM which is actually faster than my previous speed using QWERTY since I no longer have bad typing habits.
People get upset when they need to use my computer because the letters are in different places. And I pretend like I don't know what they are talking about "See, it works just fine??" haha I can hardly contain myself when I do that to people. Because then I'll make them try again and they still don't understand. Then I swiftly switch the keyboard layout with a keyboard shortcut and say "Are you sure it's not working? Try again" And to their astonishment it works. Best part is I'm the "computer guy" in the office. These guys have no idea that other keyboard layouts even exist, nevermind figuring out how to change it.
Learning a new keyboard layout is a lot like learning a new language.

Slovakbro! Almost everything is entirely correct, just a couple of things, >Το кομμένο кεφάλι είναι απίστευτη кαλά διατηρημένο Απίστευτη should be απίστευτα > να ήταν ενήλιкος λύкος στο πλήρους μεγέθου Ότι seems like it would be more fitting than να, if you recall from ancient Greek, ότι is used for secondary sentences that explain and add details and this stays true in modern Greek. Your version is not entirely wrong though, somebody on the streets might use your version. Also στο doesn't really fit in considering how the rest of the sentence is written, it's just somewhat awkward is and not entirely necessarily. Otherwise, you're doing really well and thank you for learning the worthless version of our language
Julian Collins
>if you recall from ancient Greek Good one, lad χΔ

Does anybody know whether Duolingo or lingodeer has a better Russian course? Yeah you can simply remove the στο. Purist Greek is unironically complete cancer that should be erased from history but I want multiple tones back.

I think you'd be better off getting a textbook to learn grammar unless you just want to check what the language is about and don't want to commit to it.

Is language learning usually this hard? I feel like I am not making any progress. I studying an hour a day too little? When I get off holidays I want to study three hours a day. I am struggling with the fourth section of duolingo stories. I feel so frustrated from not knowing things. Do you fellas think I will be able to get Delf a2 in November or is there too little time?
It is a demanding process if you're not some guru. I'd say an hour a day is plenty, but if you don't feel you're making progress, maybe step back and reconsider how you spend that hour. There are also ways to absorb bits of the language while you're not actively studying. Listening to the radio, switching your browser/OS to the target language, etc. I reckon it adds up.
I see thanks lad Are you the dude from /ex-yu/ who majored in Latin?

Depends. Sometimes I Focus on grammar, mostly do this, and little less on spoken conversation.

I think both work in the case you posted. Which often implies a more narrow choice, like 'Which of the following countries was the first to land a man on the moon: X, Y, Z?' or 'Which one of these puppies do you like better?' What can be used in a more general sense, like 'What do you want for lunch?' or 'What city was Jesus born in?'
Carson Wilson

>studying an hour a day too little? Yes and no
You could be listening to your TL's radio, audiobooks, podcasts all day long. This is an easy, but often overlooked aspect of language learning. Even if you're not actively listening you're getting exposure which does help your brain put up the patterns and flow of a language. So you'll more quickly be able to turn what sounds like gibberish into separate words. So once you do learn words by reading, and usking anki or whatever, all the sudden it'll make your brain actually listen, instead of disregarding it as gibberish. Listening to a lot of audio will also improve your accent.
Cooper Gutierrez
That's why I said both work. I don't think using either would be a mistake.

How do you write mexico in chinese and what does it mean ?
Kevin Price
Yep I'm here. I know it's a meme language and has little applicability, but I think it'd be a fun side project since it's so easy to learn and can apparently help with learning other languages.
well on the map i found on the OP link >"Read this shit some damn time: 4chanint.fandom.com/wiki/The_Official_Jow Forums_How_to_Learn_A_Foreign_Language_Guide_Wiki" china as a whole seems to be considered category V ( i guess it includes all the languages and dialects of the country maybe?)
wait Jap writing is harder than chinese? I tried learning jap in my weeb days and I thought it was moronically complicated but I assumed the complication was of chinese origin since I've seen a lot of people complaining about Hanja when learning korean

well I've been engulfed in this language for 26 years and I must say, I have no idea what a proparoxitona is nor what the rules for acentuation(? acentuação é acentuation em ingles?) are... but then again if they consider "proficient" being the same lvl as Glenn Greenwald maybe its more believable...
