It's kind of ironic for a programmer but ever since senior year of college whenever I talk to someone about personal stuff (non-academic/non-work) I start panicking and feeling a sense of impending doom. It's like what you might feel if you're in a car and you see a truck coming at you at 80 mph without any way to get out of the way. I even had to mute the "general" chat for my work because people kept talking about their kids and weekends.
But it doesn't happen if I talk to people in real life or over mail. Not that I'm very good at conversation in real life, I'm as autistic as most people here, it's just I don't get this impending doom sort of feeling.
Thanks user. I actually live near a community garden and I'm going to rent a plot and start one next spring. I'll look into getting a small plant I can keep into my apartment too.
To some extent I think I'm happier like this. Socializing is really a huge drain on my mental energy and I feel terrible for weeks whenever I get rejected (not in a romantic sense, but as in a didn't-get-invited-to-x-event). But you're right, I should at least go out by myself once in a while.
user, if it tastes good to you, don't worry about what anyone else thinks. It's really hard to screw up flavor matching at a beginner level, other than adding too much salt. Just keep doing simple things, your girlfriend can eat out if she wants, you still save money.
