Using foil in reverse I get 10 or 2, but I've never seen someone get an answer like "n +/- x". What method gives an answer like that? From the last equation?
Adam Allen
>r^2 - 12r + 20 = 0
That one being the "last equation"

R=10
Oh boy, i miss math, i knew I should have done engineering.

there is a rule you learn in 8th grade or so
if you have
x^2 + px + q = 0
the two solutions are
x = -p/2 +/- sqrt[(p/2)^2 - q]

Thanks
I made it through calc 2 and I've never seen it done like that.
Hudson King
If you had:
2x^2 + px + q = 0
Would it then be:
2x = -p/2 +/- sqrt[(p/2)^2 - q]
?
